Do you dress for yourself or others?

Post by minks »

I have to ask ....

I work in the "blue collar" industry and get to wear jeans to work, I wear jeans for leisure as well, and often am hard pressed to "dress to the nines" I used to be a "suit" working downtown so have been on both sides of the scale with dress codes.

I find I now am inclined to dress for comfort more than anything else. And frankly am liking the cargo pants look as well as my jeans. But this is what I get from others....

Male friends

Don't you own a little black dress

Don't you ever wear tight jeans

Parents

Can't you ever dress up

We are going to dine at a nice place could you try and fit in

My Brother and sister hint with this line

"we have to dress nice"

Argh WTF, I dress for me not others. I am always in clean clothes isn't that good enough.... crikey!!!! :-5

Minks, I used to hear that stuff all the time. All I ever wore were my 501s. Or else my nice pair of black jeans. I always looked nice though and if the occasion called for it, I'd break out a dress. But I live in the sticks and we don't dress up out here as a rule.

I like to look approachable and friendly. So I dress that way. And I respond to people who look the same as I do.

I would find those comments needling and rude. I am sure you're not a slob so what difference does it make what you have on?! Are these people more interested in you or in your ability to make a good appearance in the eyes of others?

Grr.

Thanks shiney one, I have always dressed myself... oops dressed for myself. :wah: It's what I am comfortable in, it's always neat, tidy, clean, and to the best of my ability and finances. I am like you I can dress up my jeans or dress them down, I have a very nice pair of fashion boots to accomidate my jeans if I am going out to anyplace fancy, I have nice tops as well.... It's my family that makes me the craziest.... Argh!!!!

Ok I was just venting :D

I've always dressed for myself, I have to indulge my funky hippy side. :D

The weird thing is that I frequently get comliments which surprises me since my tastes are kinda different....:o

I have to be comfy though, and I hate dressing up unless I absolutely must like for a wedding or whatever..........

I dress with what fits over my fat a$$!!:wah: :wah:

I hear what your saying Minks, comfort is the key. I've been fortunate to work in offices that require "business casual" and that's ME!! I'm not really a blue jean girl, but do like them from time to time...I like to dress "meduim", not fancy but not blue jeans and a t-shirt. I'm with you on the cleanliness and appearance...as long as it's clean clothes and you've had your shower for the week.....:D don't see the problem!!:)

I totally dress for comfort... no tight pants... love cotton. If I love something and its a great buy, I will often buy more than one. 12 years ago, coming to a sleepy small country town, put an end to dressing up. Sometimes I feel a little bad, remembering Saturday nights at a New York club. And I always did love the little black dress. But I loathe panty hose and my legs cant go bare ( veins) so it is, comfort #1

I'm a jeans and tshirt girl. However if I have to dress up I have some khaki capris that I'll wear with a nice shirt.
