I'm leaving on a jet plane,
don't know when I'll be back again.
In the meantime I carry with me the memories, good, bad and peculiar to the English, over which I can ponder to summarise my experience to date.
Things I won't miss:
The transit system
The food
General fear of crossing the street
Things I will miss:
The next UK meet up
Going to the pub with Pinky and swashbuckling hats from the locals
Slapping spot
Walking on uneven sidewalks
Following footpaths that have built in steps that allow you to climb gates and cut through other people's property.

I truly envy anyone who gets to visit England. I've been an anglophile since childhood. We now have an English neighbor whom I constantly pump for information; one day she'll get sick of it. :p
As to the food: I like the stuff myself. It would literally kill me to eat it every day, but I'd go with a hand grasping my chest and a smile on my face.
And I'd love to spend time in a real pub (we call them pubs here as well, but they have ferns in pots and "heart-healthy" menus, for cripe's sake), but I'd have to start smoking again in self-defense and so it's just as well.

I didn't think our food was any unhealthier than yours is TBH...it's the choices we make I guess.
I misspoke (mis-typed). I meant that I love the fried English food I've had, the stuff I prefer over the healthier choices I feel compelled to consume now. No offense meant.

I spent the better part of my life in the South, land of the Fried. Jeebus, the stuff I ate, and all of it a greasy dollop of Heaven itself. As you say, it's the choices one makes. This one used to choose a labored heartbeat. :rolleyes:
