They don't do that anymore Soberano, except in a couple remote villages.

It was considered erotic and only the well to do girls had their feet maimed this way. Pretty repulsive IMO.

Ouch! My parents had some of these old binding shoes (as souvenirs) from Japan when I was growing up. I had no idea that the feet would get so deformed.

Makes my feet hurt!

Those long necked women fascinate me. It's not that their necks stretch, it's actually that the rings press down on their shoulders and that gives the impression of a stretched neck.

They might like to stop this but it would really hurt tourism. People still pay to have their pictures taken with these women.

Nobody at all binds feet any more, and it hasn't been done in a long time. It's stopped. "Why do the Chinese do this"? They don't.

Some still continued binding their feet in secret like small towns who still believe in the tradition.

She is the oldest one to be reported today but there a probably more that we don't know about & you and me cant prove it, I was talking about our last generation of living beings who have had it done.

Some still continue this practise to this day... It's similar to the old practise in Victorian England of binding a woman's waist with a corset... even today some might consider the practise of plastic surgery to be the modern equivalent.

So getting back to topic, the daughters of wealthy Chinese had their feet broken and trained starting about 4 or 5 I think, and it lasted for around 5 or more years. The point aside from being erotic was that it crippled the girl and rendered her useless to any hard labor so she would have to be married off to a wealthy man who would pretty much keep her as his plaything. The Chinese peasants had more sense in letting their feet alone because *someone* had to work the rice fields.

The perfect foot was 3 inches long (golden lotus)

and the next up was 4 inches (silver lotus)

Anything more was undesirable.
