Why do the Chinese do this?
They don't do that anymore Soberano, except in a couple remote villages.
It was considered erotic and only the well to do girls had their feet maimed this way. Pretty repulsive IMO.

Ouch! My parents had some of these old binding shoes (as souvenirs) from Japan when I was growing up. I had no idea that the feet would get so deformed.

Those long necked women fascinate me. It's not that their necks stretch, it's actually that the rings press down on their shoulders and that gives the impression of a stretched neck.
They might like to stop this but it would really hurt tourism. People still pay to have their pictures taken with these women.

Its suppose to be a sign of beauty having small feet.
But today as we know it, it is wrong to deform yourself in anyway to please the other sex.

Giraffes is a sign of beauty and wealth & sadly if you take all the rings of your neck you are likely to break the neck.

As the 86 year old Zhou Guizhen says in http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... Id=8966942, "When my generation dies, people won't be able to see bound feet, even if they want to". Nobody at all binds feet any more, and it hasn't been done in a long time. It's stopped. "Why do the Chinese do this"? They don't.

She is the oldest one to be reported today but there a probably more that we don't know about & you and me cant prove it, I was talking about our last generation of living beings who have had it done.

Some still continue this practise to this day... It's similar to the old practise in Victorian England of binding a woman's waist with a corset... even today some might consider the practise of plastic surgery to be the modern equivalent.

Why do the Chinese do this?
So getting back to topic, the daughters of wealthy Chinese had their feet broken and trained starting about 4 or 5 I think, and it lasted for around 5 or more years. The point aside from being erotic was that it crippled the girl and rendered her useless to any hard labor so she would have to be married off to a wealthy man who would pretty much keep her as his plaything. The Chinese peasants had more sense in letting their feet alone because *someone* had to work the rice fields.
The perfect foot was 3 inches long (golden lotus)
and the next up was 4 inches (silver lotus)
Anything more was undesirable.

These feet were also popular for sexual activities, there's some kind of kama sutra thing for just feet.
The "three-inch golden lotuses" were seen as the ultimate erogenous zone, with Qing dynasty pornographic books listing 48 different ways of playing with women's bound feet.

There's a convention on the Internet that precludes asking for proof of a negative.
What we do is we each pull positive statements from reputable sources. Obviously if you find an instance of, say, a binding performed in the last twenty years, then you succeed in making me look very foolish. The more such instances you find, the more foolish I'll look. The gold standard would be something like a UN Report Into Continued Foot Binding Practices In China. I urge you to rub my face in the mud by demonstrating that the practice remains current.
The positive statement I introduced here was first-hand testimony from someone who was foot-bound and lives in the region. You could, I suppose, say that it's a trivial or biased source, in which case I'll go and find another that fits your criteria of acceptability.
