Virginians Face $3,000 Traffic Ticket
(July 1) - Virginia is for lovers, or so the state slogan has declared since 1969. Starting today, Virginia also will be the home of the $3,000 traffic ticket. In an effort to raise money for road projects, the state will start hitting residents who commit serious traffic offenses with huge civil penalties.
Beginning Sunday, Virginia is adding new civil charges to traffic fines. They range from $750 to $3,000 and will be added to existing fines and court costs. The civil penalty for going 20 mph over the speed limit will be $1,050, plus $61 in court costs and a fine that is typically about $200.

This is easy to avoid; slow the hell down. That sign that says 35 mph is not a suggestion. I think it should be this way every where personally. People do not pay attention on the road anymore. Oh look a red light, lets just keep going, no one will mind. Get them off the road until they can pay the damned cost of the civil penalty as well.
Life ain't linear.

All it takes is one friend being t-boned at a red light by a ****ing moron talking on a cell phone and running a light that had been red for more than a minute. She was barely 20 years old when that ******* decided that a phone conversation and a lack of attention was a fair trade for a human life.
Life ain't linear.

I don't have to concern myself with this... at least that's what I was told years ago... besides, you'd have to be nuts to go speeding on I-95 'specially during one of the rare times that it was even possible... at least around here. :p Anyway, this is a good thing for Virginia.

In Finland traffic fines take into consideration your income and supposedly a senior executive at Nokia got a 100k ticket.
Why do they even make cars that go 240 km/h?

Excellent point! It seems rediculious for them to make cars here that have speedometers that go upto 160 mph, (258km/h) when most top speed posted limits go upto only 75 to 80mph!
Conversly to the Nokia guy getting that amazing ticket, if someone say only made like 14,000/ year could translate to them getting only a $3.00 ticket! :wah:
