Death penalty is wrong

Post by maccat »

In America you have the death penalty. This barbaric sentencing is way out of line. Taking the life of a human being is wrong no matter what they are acused of. For one thing the courts get things wrong from time to time. Locking someone up for the rest of their life is more punishing than ending it. As for sex perverts, castrate them and put them in jail for the rest of their days.

You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

I understand where you are coming from, but I say take them out!!

Child molesters should be castrated first without anaesthetic, then put to death.

Why put up with it? Society has become too soft on criminals.

The death penalty is definately a touchy subject for sure.I think it should be used for severe criminal cases. It's just a strong punishment, but consider what that person did to deserve that punishment.

You are only partly right. The U.S has 14 states that do not have a Death Penalty. There is no national death penalty and it's really up to each individual state to decide for themselves.

As for me-------I am opposed to the death penalty and this is a change of heart from what I felt just 10 years ago. My change of heart has nothing to do with religious conviction, but more of a belief that depriving someone of their freedom for the rest of their life is a better punishment. When you execute the prisoner, that's it, finito, no more. Dying by injection or even hanging or the firing squad is not really a punishment in my opinion. I would really prefer solitary for some of these folks and would like to deprive them of certain liberties that are afforded them in some prisons, but, just a loss of freedom can make a person pretty miserable.

To me it's not about punishment. If the public is in mortal danger and there is no hope for rehabilitation, there's no point in keeping the criminal around.

I thinkyou ought to try saying this to someone who has there child mudered .You say locking them up for the rest of there lifes is punishing them ,but if i was a parent of a mudrerd child knowing that the murder was still alive ,would not be enough for me.

Thing about keeping them in jail for life is everybody has to pay for them, its not cheap to keep a prisoner. If its without a doubt and with D&A test nowadays surley they can get it right.People like Charles Manson why keep him alive hes a drain on society and his like, they should all be put down.

I have always waivered back and forth on how I feel about the death penalty. I think it is barbaric, I could never be the one to pull the switch, or give the injection. I worry about those wrongly accused because the legal system is not perfect. Then when my thoughts move on to crimes committed by the likes of Charles Manson or Ted Bundy... I know they have to die. Monsters like them should never be permitted to walk around amongst people again. In the case of having a child or loved one murdered, I cannott even begin to imagine the pain, and the anger. If anyone ever hurt one of my children or grandchildren... I have always felt that I would be capable of killing the murderer myself... with no fear of imprisonment, as I would no longer care about living. But then, I dont know.

I know it's barbaric and kind of archaic even. However so are the crimes it avenges. As long as we have murderers and rapists we should be able to take them out. I would prefer to see it done by the victim's family or the victim themself but people think I'm a weirdo when they hear me say that.

I dont think evil can ever be rehabilitated, if fiddling with little girls or slowly torturing someone is your thing, it will always be your thing.

In the case of those people - yeah i'm all for the death sentance.

There would be more fear of retribution if sickos felt that they were fair game of the families of victims.. Another problem with the courts handing killers is the way money or power can often buy freedom. Example is the case of OJ Simpson. There have been so many cases where I have said.." Gee, if that were me... Id have been dead months ago. There is this great book Rage of Angels. I was a Sydney Sheldon fan for many years , long ago.

I never forgot the book.. This hot shot female attorney gets this killer off. Knowing that he was a killer. She did it because the law had become a game. It was all about winning, not whether or not the person was guilty. So anyway.... she gets him off to prove how good she is, and he turns around anf kidnaps her little girl.

It would be a good idea to allow victims families to decide on an accused's guilt. And dish out punishment they feel appropriate

That would put a heck of a responsibility on the family, when you read how some people have forgiven people that have killed their relations, it does make you wonder, I mean if you'd of asked them folks when the crime had been committed, surely most people would want to kill them with their bare hands, yet they have found something in themselves to try and forgive, many people that have done that, have said they couldn't live a life full of hate. If they dished out a punishment, having that responsibility could ruin the rest of their lives.

I could never forgive and I find it strange people that do, they are a better person than I.

Having the victims family decide the punishment - not a bad idea.

I would throughly enjoy having the authority/decision of punishment for the 2 men who strangled my Nephew.

If I had that authority I would still want them to rot in prison - after I had a chance to beat the F--- out of them..

I wouldn't want them sentenced to death - I want them to rot..

The avarage cost of keeping a prisoner in jail in the UK for a year is £17,000 approximately 70,000 people are in prison in the UK.

Patsy i dont think you realise how easy they have it in prison nowardays. Its true to say if i had a family member murdered i'd want the person to rot in hell but seeing as there is no hell to rot in the death sentance would do nicely.

In quoting the figures to you i'm just looking at the bigger picture, where the money could be better spent. If a member of my family is taken from me i'd rather a hospital or school built than paying for their murderer to watch tv, oh did i mention they have dvd's, games rooms, gym's. Not exactly rotting is it? :(

Death comes to us all and isn't a punishment just by bringing it forward. Some jails are cushy yes, but taken away someones freedom, depriving them of a relationship with the opposite sex or the ability to have children. Taking away all the special things innocent people enjoy. well to me thats punishment and they will suffer more pain that way than simply terminating their life.

TV - as a group - a smelly group watches 1 TV

Other prisoners abuse others - Thats not a vacation - thats not luxury

No outside - very little fresh air - bologna & water

No family - no freedoms - some totally isolated

so they get to see a lousy movie - no hope - no future - nothing

they can rot.

As far as I'm concerned - A person has no right to live if he/she takes someone else's lfe.

And a life sentence should be EXACTLY that!! None of this getting out after 3 years for "good behaviour" :-5 :-5

The DP isn't just about "punishment." (I prefer to say revenge.)

It's about ensuring they never do it again.

Besides in this way it IS a wors epunishment than prison: we have committed the ultimate "take"- we have taken what is supremely theirs- their life. They will have to pay once they get where they're going. I don't buy for a minute that it's not going to be hard on them.
