Where is the Freakin' LOVE???

Post by WonderWendy3 »

Okay, I was at my favorite mexican resturant today...which I know that I shouldn't have gone, due to finances and the fact that I am currently walking with a cane. But, I am a VERY head-strong (not stubborn at all-sarcasm to be found there ) Woman. I am used to doing everything myself, so this has been hard having people wait on me....So I decided to venture out at lunch and go to Chipolte, which is a mexican resturant, for those of you not familiar...set up kind of like Subway, you go down the counter and tell them what you want on your fajita or burrito etc. Okay, so I get to the register, everything is fine...I walk over to the drink/condoments island and make my drink (iced tea--can her dubs spitting-ha) and I start to walk away and grab my tea, bag of food, purse and cane...and I lost my balance and tea went everywhere and I put weight on my bad leg so of course I'm almost in tears by now...Does ONE person help me...mind you the resturant is FULL of people, one guy walked around me and gave me a look as if I bothered him...I had to walk back up to the register and tell them that there was a spill, which didn't really phase them....and I got another cup...tried again and succeeded and now I'm back in the office.....

That really got me thinking...If I saw someone struggling, would I have helped them?? Would YOU?

Do you think that todays society is too selfish and self-absorbed that we don't help our neighbor when they just need a hand??

Oh Hunny I would have wacked a few people with your cane.

Of course I would try and help someone in your situation.

One day I saw the cutest little old man walking downhill I was driving by and gravity got the better of him and he fell over literally onto his face. I pulled my car over and ran to help him, he had lost his glasses and groceries and was feeling around blindly in the grass gathering grapes and groping for his glasses. It was terribly sad his face was all scraped up. I found his specs and helped him with his produce and another man came along and offered to drive him to walmart to get his glasses rebent and then said he would take him home.

My mother has taken similar falls and others have graciously helped her.

Sweetie I am sorry you struggled, if I were there I would have helped you out.

Ha, I think of dubs spitting and saying ewweee everytime I mention Iced Tea...now I can hear you also!! :) It is frustrating that people don't care as a general rule, or so it seems. The town I live in has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 5-10 years, seems that we are more "city" minded than "small town" minded...everyone is busy chasing the dollar that they are forgetting to stop to smell the roses and help a stranger when they are struggling...

What a world we live in.??? between this and Minks restaurant experience, fine examples for the people today.

Of course I & several others would've helped in anyway we could - I wouldn't pick something up off the floor for you (due to my own condition), but I'd do something.

Like open the door & kick your butt out due to the mess you made.!! Kidding.

Its difficult to explain if people are just into themselves? - one track thought, can't do multiply tasking? I don't know - and I don't think its a certain age group.

I guess thats why when I was on a city bus in Hawaii - if a elderly person or disabled person got on the bus, a young person had to give up their seat - automatic - no questions asked - and the younger assisted the other person. I was very impressed - and I had a bus pass, rode the bus everywhere, happened all the time, very impressive.

Okay maybe it's just me, but the fact that a *man* ignored you really p.isses me off. I'm still old fashioned in that way. AND, that any bystanding women didn't help you p.isses me off too because women help other women. That's just the Rule. Women have a bond with each other just because we're women.

These people evidently have no class whatsoever. I would have helped you up, carried your stuff to your table and made stupid jokes about it so you wouldn't have felt so bad.

Reminds me of the first trip I made to the grocery store after injuring my back to grab a few "quick" things. I had to keep sitting down on display boxes every aisle. I ended up leaving my basket by a stack of pop cases and going for one thing at a time then bringing it back. I barely got to the checkout and I was trying to figure out how I was going to get the bags to my car when an elderly man who had noticed me in the store waited and insisted on helping me to my car.

Of all the people I would have expected to help me, and it was obvious that I was having a lot of trouble walking, none of the young, healthy people in the store, clerks included, thought of asking if I needed help. Just this elderly man that refused to let me walk it alone. :-6

a sad sign of the times, what cruddy ethics in some of these generations. That elderly man came from the era of helping others and it seems we have digressed into these slug like mutants that could be bothered to inconvenience ourselves. Makes me angry.

Lately when I go to the gas station (garage) to get my coffee, I have noticed people half filling their cups with ice then topping up with coffee. I know I have been here for 4 years, and should be used to this, but I still can't stop myself from looking at them in horror. They look back at me, like 'whats your problem' - there are just somethings I can't get used to :-3 :-6 :)

I can't believe that people could be so horrible. My hubby is in a wheelchair and I find 99% of people are brill.

Saying this he had some yobs throw stones at him when he was out in his power chair without me with him, a few weeks back.

I still have a lot of faith in human nature,it is only a small percent that are ruining society,ie afraid to go out at night, something that was unknown when I was young.

Love Mexican food by the way,we have a great restaurant not far from us.

I did not know you were poorly Wendy.Sending you hugs.

WW3 are you sure you didn't have the PMS eyes going. That might have scared them off. Or they might have thought you hurt your leg kicking the last dude in the nuts that tried to help you. Or they might have thought you were a lesbian and hurt your leg pole dancing for your lesbian girlfriends. Or.......:wah:

Or they might have thought that there is a guy in Kansas that is getting really bad Vibes right now!!:wah::wah:

I don't think these people thought!!:-5

I just know if I saw someone struggling, I would help them in a minute, I have done it a million times and always do. Just seemed that I had a disease of some sort.

Thanks everyone for your kind words and loved all the stories also...

As for Mr. dubs and the tea tipping problem.........I say pfffffftttttttttttt!!

And as for the Iced Coffee, I had some from McDonalds for the first time, b/f got it because the ice cream machines were down and wanted to get me a treat...well I will say this...they were okay...don't think I'd get one all the time, but I drank it.

I prefer the frozen coffee flavored drinkies from like Dairy queen and Dunkin Donuts...Mocha Latte's ....yummmmm

yes ww that was terrible! many people now-a-days seem completely and utterly indifferent and insensititive to their fellow human beings! unfortunately, that fact displays itself every day by the me, me, me, i, i, i, attitude of too many people, not wanting to get involved!

btw, i would have helped you ww, even though i currently have only one good working arm! :)
