Don't quite see why they make you feel like that Red! This is the way vegetables can look if they are left to their own devices - not uniform 'perfect' ones that we see at the supermarket!!! Far more natural to have variations:wah:

I must admit I thought it a reasonable curiosity.

Why on earth would those vegetable pics gross you out? And if they really warranted the quadruple exclamation points in the thread title how do you react to, say, a cleft palate?

You guys cannot be serious, can you? You actually don't find fkdup produce to be ugly? Creepy?

And you're trying to tell me that there's a parallel between gross vegetables and unfortunate people? Or you're running with Lon's crazy remark to get some board action?

Y'all must be freaks!

So I'll ask YOU...remember the Chinese guy with the extra working mouth at the top of his skull?

Ever been to those gore sites with the bottled anencephalic babies?

Seen any parasitic twins?

Do you find that stuff attractive?

one of my friends as a teenager was born with a cleft palate. A hole in her face between her mouth and nose. She had a number of surgeries to fix it but it was never completely restored. Men can grow facial hair over the scarring and still be considered attractive but my friend was shunned and ridiculed for her looks until she became a heroine addict.

People who found her disgusting nearly destroyed her life.

Last I heard she somehow got through it all and is doing well in Toronto. I don't know for sure if it's true as she also had become a compulsive liar. She tried to get friends with wild tales of adventure. The stories were so good I didn't care if they were true.

My friend looked more like photo B when she was born.

No. I'm not just "stirring". I watched my friend suffer while everyone pretended that the way they treated her was reasonable and fair.

So, which do you find grosser? these photos or the eggplants?

I find uncorrected cleft palates ugly and scary looking. Who wouldn't, besides a doctor. But that doesn't mean you harangue the person who has one. A corrected CP is no big deal. Look at Joaquin Phoenix. Nobody's complaining about him.

I really don't think I hurt the produces' feelings when I called it ugly.

I was born with a deformity myself. It was corrected and for years I was still conscious of it. Ashamed even. Now I don't care. When I see it on others before correction, it's not very attractive. So what? It's okay to say that.

In answer to your question, I actually do not find f-ed up produce creepy.

Joaquin Phoenix did not have a cleft palate, according to Wikipedia, though Stacy Keach and Rita MacNeil did.

I am not saying that you should find human deformities attractive, I'm just saying that I found Lon's question reasonable. You rather proved his point.

Koan, help me to understand how my calling an ugly eggplant creepy and deformed- an EGGPLANT- made you think of your friend? If i had posted a picture of a deformed person and said "Hey Look How Ugly!" I would not be a very cool person. (Even though we've made fun of fat people and others here and few cared then) It wouldn't occur to me to do something like that.

I don't see that giving a person a hard time over their imperfections is "reasonable" or "fair" so I'm sure you're not poking me for insulting a deformed eggplant.

I find both gross. Monstrous even. I'm not going to lie and say it doesn't matter or it's attractive to have part of one's face split open. But the difference is that I would not say that to the person with the cleft palate (or anything else) because I have better sense and feelings.

I don't know about what Wikipedia says, but I know what Joaquin said and I think he'd probably know. :)

I'm not sure Lon even had a point so I'm not sure what you think I proved.

I tried to just pick out the key moments that led to the discussion.

Lon asked a question.

Lon was attacked for asking the question.

I supported the thesis of the query, which is not hard to follow.

Nobody is worried about the eggplant's feeling but a few of us find it just as astonishing that vegetables sincerely gross you out as you find it astonishing that we see a correlation between the vegetables and some human deformities.

Why is this so hard to follow?

Now, back to disussions of produce?

A typical Lon statement with much presumption. Let's get that part straight. I know what the goal was and I didn't bite. Nobody attacked Lon. That's ridiculous. Several thought the statement (not an actual question even) was out of bounds as did I.

I supported the thesis of the query, which is not hard to follow.

Nobody is worried about the eggplant's feeling but a few of us find it just as astonishing that vegetables sincerely gross you out as you find it astonishing that we see a correlation between the vegetables and some human deformities.

I'm used to the first part. I have friends who think I'm crazy for freaking out around ugly plants and deformed produce. We just don't understand each other. Yet I have other friends who agree the stuff is horrible. It's nature run amok and She's not supposed to do that.

I'm not astonished exactly, but I am very perplexed as to why a thinking human would draw parallels between insulting deformed eggplants and insulting other human beings.

Why is this so hard to follow?

Koan, I must ask you the same thing. I want to say because it's far fetched but I don't want to be rude. Maybe we're just never going to understand each other on this one.

Now, back to disussions of produce?

I'm not sure there's much more to say. Is there?

put it this way...

the thread was funny.

if you are serious about the vegetable freaking you out to the point of "heebie jeebies" then you'd probably have some issues dealing with human deformities face to face.

hahaha, Red... veggies freak you out... that's funny.

Boy are you sensitive--------I have no problem with you or anyone else. I just find it amazing (as some others do as well) that you find irregular shaped veggies gross (your words), and that they give you the heebie jeebies (your words). If something as simple a lumpy vegetables gives you the heebie jeebies I was curious to know if people with similar defects gives you the heebie jeebies or you find them gross. Seems like a very natural correlation to me. I did not accuse you of thinking or speaking ill of the handicapped or those with deformities. Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill as you tend to do with some of my responses to your posts.

Come off it Lon. Start taking responsibility for the crap you say and how you say it. You have insulted every one of us, implied we were white trash and even called me inane and stupid and the FG Prima Donna; you have just posted a bunch of drivel talking about how you don't have to apologize for what you say, that you enjoy **** stirring and goading and everyone but a random few kissed your ass over it. I'm not buying it anymore.

I don't like the way you post nine out of ten times (as you have already come down on my posting style several times I'm sure it's mutual) and I'm tired of trying to be nice to you/get along with you. I don't know you and don't respect you therefore I don't care what you think about anything really. You can be a nice person when you try/want to be but this schtick you have going needs to be cashed in.

How about we just don't post in each other's threads anymore if we cannot get along? I'll do the same.

And I offer no apology either.

Honestly i thought it was just so funny that the freaky veg freaked out Red so much! But people are funny sometimes we cant help what freaks us out. But it didnt lead me in to deep thought about why, what else freaks her out etc. I just thought eee thats funny had a laugh about it with her and let it go. By the way i dont find either the veg or the baby pic in the least bit freaky ugly or scary, i couldnt find any baby ugly.

Tell ya what Red----I'll continue to respond and post to any threads that I like, including yours, if that irritates you, don't read it. I am a lovely and nice person, in fact, to know me is to love me.:wah:
