Getting Emotional Needs Met At Work

Post by cinamin »

Recently I learned that you aren't supposed to try and expect to have your emotional needs met at your job. It was a kind of "eye-opening" idea that I realized. Actually someone told me this. And I can now see how I used to do this. And then found myself feeling discouraged about work. But work isn't where one is supposed to go to get their emotional business resolved or their "issues" handled. IT's supposed to be to get a paycheck. And I think to be productive too. But then lots of people find themselves in trouble when they don't, but instead, use work as a place to have their emotional needs met.

Getting Emotional Needs Met At Work

We spend most of our waking time at work, atleast 40 hour/week. But., the time we spend at work is "on the clock"...company time not our time. Any emontional needs that we would have at work would have to be to help us be better employees and co-workers.

I think you've been given a good bit of advice there, Cinnamin. Employers may talk the talk about being team players and having a fun place to work and all that piffle but bottom line is $$$. They're not interested in stroking your ego. That's where outside interests and hobbies come in, and of course friends, family and lovers.
