Our River Adventure.......
I have lived in the same home for almost 17 years. The only home that the boys have really ever known. There is a River called the PO River within a few miles by car from us. Our neighbors that live behind us that have horses told me years ago about the trails behind our house that lead to the river...they would go on the trails horse-back....
I always wanted to go back to see the river for myself, and finally today, the boys and I went down there....and then if that wasn't enough we went across the river, up a trail, and then down a trail to the power lines and then down another trail and then to another trail which eventually was a dead end!! On our way TO the dead end we passed a 4-wheeler that had hunting gear all over it. Malachi said "lets steal it, the keys are in it" and I said, ummmm NO!...so we passed it again on our way back and Malachi said it again, and I told him that the person that it belongs to could be listening to us, and he says (real loud) "I'm just kiddin'" So, we are walking away and down the trail a bit, I look back and I turn around to see a man in full hunting gear, even his head was covered up....scared the poop out of me. The boys weren't phased and even wanted me to slow down, I told them I was askerred!!
So, we heard him coming down the trail, and he stopped and talked to us, he was very nice and explained to us that ummmm, we were a LONG way from home! It was a bad sign when we told him the name of our subdivision and he's never heard of it! And we had left the house @ 3:10 and I asked him what time was it, and it was 5:30, we had about an hour left to daylight
Malachi is part blood-hound, he was able to get us back to the river and we got home safely and soundly. The kids took the leash off of our big dog while at the river and accidentially left it there, we realized this after we were up the VERY steep hill above the river, and NO-one went back to get it...We were all way too tired, still had about another mile or so to walk...and we were thirsty and tired and for lack of better terms....pooped!!
I'll post pics in the following posts, don't want to mess up anyone's margins....

I have more pics, just took forever to load them and then the attachment manager thingy ma bob didn't like the size....ugh!!
I enjoyed it a lot and it was great for me and the boys to get out of the house from in front of the boob tube, we won't mention that I have assignments to work on!
It was a great time and I'm thankful that we went--except for the whole getting lost thing....

Wow. At 1st I thought this was going to be one of those stories about the crazy hunting guy that lives in the woods and likes to bury people alive but not so deep that they cant hear him chuckling.

Yeah, thanks Nomad, that was EXACTLY why I started walking really fast when I turned around and saw him just standing there....I forgot to mention that he did have a rifle in his hand. The boys weren't scared at all...they were trying to calm me down!:o

Take more pics if you go again. It was a fun day, and after we were home safe and sound (and really sore) we were all thankful that we did it... Caleb (the youngest) came up to me later, hugged me and kissed me and said "I really enjoyed our adventure today Mom"....that made it all worth while!!:-4

Thank you, and you are right, I was thinking about how many years I've actually known about the river being down there and it's been at least 10 years if not more, a real shame that we haven't been there before now. I asked the kids if they were ready for another adventure this morning and Caleb said "sure"....I got NO response from Malachi!!:wah::wah:

Anytime! But you have the beach...how I would love that!:-6
I had to go back down and retrieve the dog leash that we left behind today, but drove down the driveway and then walked down to the river. I had to go to the dump and then the grocery store and came home and asked the boys if they wanted to go for another walk, and we did!:) But we didn't go back down to the river, I am sore from yesterday and we didn't have much daylight left, so I played it safe and only trespassed on the paved road today!:D

How true Patsey. :-6 On Friday night we went to a organised night hike and then had smores around the campfire. Also, on Saturday we went kayaking. My kids complained about me forcing them to go (but my argument was FAMILY TIME and FRESH AIR - not VIDEO GAMES and TV), anyway we went to both, and they had so much fun. I had to stop myself from saying to them 'Told you so!"

Patsy Yeah, I was pretty freaked out by the hunter guy, thankfully he was very nice, even after he offerred his cell phone to me to call someone...dummy me says "I have no-one to call"...my son had my car at his work about 25 miles away and the fact that I really didn't know where we were....but if he'd been a bad person, couldn've taken advantage of my stupid remark. Thankfully it turned out to be a wonderful memory!!
And yes we did need it...I had my electric cut off on Friday because I thought the bill was up to date, my kids couldn't get a hold of me, didn't think of going to a neighbors house, so they sat without electricity for about 3 hours and then another 2 once I got home and called the electric company to come back out and turn it on for an extra $60.00 :-5
