Teaching Kids to Cook

I know this is something that is done at home. Josh, Lucy and myself have loads of fun baking together.

But this news report got me thinking (or rather remembering), when I was at school (many moons ago ) cookery was part of the curriculum. When did that stop - I thought it was a great idea, specially for those young men who thought it was just a girlies job

Home Economics, yup, we had it from 7th to 9th grade.



It taught:

-sewing(I now use a glue gune)

-baking

-cooking

-cleaning(yes I am for real)

10th grade taught Family Planning

-how to care for an infant

-creating a budget

-finding a place to live

-how to grocery shop with coupons etc



-But hey, I grat in 1985

Neither my daughters (elementary) or sons (jr. high) schools seem to teach this anymore, and I figure others don't either by the look of the news report. Its a shame, I thought it would be very useful to kids.
