Sam is sick
I collected Sam from his friends this morning to find him covered in spots! His scalp, face, back and chest is covered in them. I took him to the out of hours surgery and the Dr said he wasn't sure if it was chickenpox or a viral infection, I have to take him back tomorrow. I have just checked his mouth and he has some appearing there too, Dr said he will be off school this week :-5
Has anyone one else had chickenpox twice?

oh dear poor sam. was his first bout of the chicken pox mild? If it was he could possibly get them a second time... my girls are not free and clear of them, the both had incredibly mild bouts of chicken pox the oldest had them when she was 3 and jr minks got them when she was 9. Susy are the bumps just red, or do they have little white centers and look gooey?

do the patches move around, as in flare up in one spot then disappear and show up someplace new?
Do you have benadryl? It's good to stop itching. Suzy I can't believe the dr can't distinguish between the 2 egads.
Viral hives are the itchy red spots that don't have a white tip, or look gooey and they will flare up and go away and flare up in a new spot. They of course will appear most prevalent on hot spots, neck, insides of elbows and knees, groin the worst. I am no expert of course ok.

Thanks everyone, he was quite happy to have his pic taken for you guys to see them, typical guy posing for the girls
Here is a pic not that clear i'm afraid, they are just springing up everywhere, he is itching and scratching them now! I've given him paracetamol and antihistimines.
Let me know what you think.
Measles are doing the rounds as people haven't been getting their children immunised, could he catch that if he's had his jabs?

No he's fine, I can't get a clearer pic as it just goes blurry, they look kinda like a sunburn blister, you know when they have water inside them. They are varied in size but multiplying quicker than rabbits

Chickenpox blisters begin as red bumps that turn into blisters and then scab over. It is most contagious from 2 to 3 days before a rash develops until all the blisters have crusted over.
Shingles , often seen in older adults, is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Shingles blisters look like chickenpox, but they usually develop in a band on one side of the body.
A scabies infection, which occurs when mites burrow into the skin, may cause tiny, itchy blisters that often occur in a thin line or curved track.
Inflammation may cause skin blisters.
Occasionally a prescription or nonprescription medication or ointment can cause blisters. The blisters may be small or large and usually occur with reddened, itchy skin. If the blisters are not severe and you do not have other symptoms, stopping the use of the medication or ointment may be all that is needed.

Measles
If you would like to learn about measles symptoms and treatment you will find the following information of help.
Measles is an infection caused by the measles virus. It normally affects children, but can occur at any age. It is now rare in the UK due to immunisation. The illness is unpleasant, but most children make a full recovery. However, some children develop serious complications from measles.
What are the symptoms of measles?
Fever (high temperature), sore eyes (conjunctivitis), and a runny nose usually occur first.
Small white spots usually develop inside the mouth a day or so later.
A harsh dry cough is usual.
Going off food, tiredness, and aches and pains are usual.
Diarrhoea is common.
A red blotchy rash normally develops about 3-4 days after the first symptoms. It usually starts on the head and neck, and spreads down the body. It takes 2-3 days to cover most of the body. The rash often turns a brownish colour and gradually fades over a few days.
Children are usually quite unwell and miserable for 3-5 days. After this the fever tends to ease, and then the rash fades. The other symptoms gradually ease and go.
hope that helps Suz:)

Use Calomine lotion - it was designed for the job and will soothe the itching enough to let him stop the scratching.

I'll take him back to Dr's tomorrow as I need to know what is is as he has been near my Mum and she has no immunity at the moment, I'll let you all know tomorrow what they say

I'm sorry SuzyB, poor guy. Calamine lotion and epson salt baths will help with the itching. don't let him scratch to much, can cause scarring.

Sorry CG, only just seen this post
It's not chicken pox they think it may be an allergic reaction?!?!?! Sam was off school all last week but he has to go back tomorrow, he's not looking forward to it, it's not nice going to school at that age with a bad rash. Am posting some up to date pics.
As you can see he is still in good spirits, just had Jim and Sam having a competition to see who can pull the funniest faces, boys eh:wah:
