How have the Simpsons changed your life?

Post by kensloft »

One of the greatest social commentary and satire of Western Culture are the Simpson Family. How have they affected your outlook on life? Favourite character, plot, on going relationships etc.

I have so many favourites that it wouldn't be good to start because I'd be here all night and nobody wants to listen to anybody for that long unless they pay for it.

Bart catching Mrs. Kerbopple and principal Skinner being in love.

My Harvard graduating cousin, Al Jean, is the executive producer of "The Simpsons!" I had mentioned it in another post. Not that I can give you any original cells from the show, but I certainly have the inside scoop on the show and able to give tours of the studio through my cousin. I have been to his home in California and seen a lot of the behind the scenes workings.

Ironiclly, Al is not a very outgoing person for the humor he produces. Instead, he remains a very private and introverted type person, but highly intelligent. That guy use to study around the clock and I mean endlessly. His degree from Harvard has nothing to do with writing comedy, (he was also a supporting writer in the movie "Airplane" ... very funny ... even better than John Stewart I'd say) but he did get started writing for the recently deceased Johnny Carson as well as for Gary Shandling (sp?) and others

Anyhow, there are soooo many episodes that are over the top that it is very difficult for me to choose one, two or even the top ten. It is the longest running award winning animated series on T.V. surpassing "The Flintstones".

I guess I got side-tracked in this post, but thought you may find it interesting.

hey Kensloft..the simpsons haven't "changed my life". however they were groundbreaking. my favorite bit is a tee shirt one of my sons has with the nuclear plant owner saying "release the hounds"...funny stuff. puts me in mind of "cry havoc, release the dogs of war" from Julius Caesar. anyway...i was later seduced by South Park, which i find even more on point and scathing....not to mention wildly funny. do you watch it? it is usually topical and absolutely hilarious.

That was my dilemma. To begin with a story and not go through the whole gamut of episodes. Now that we know that you have relatives in the show? How about coming down from your Ivory Tower and give some of us plebians a story or two about the Simpsons on the screen and not in the background?

And mingle with mortal bi-peds??!! *gasp* The Horror!!!

The Simpsons was a show I was vehemently opposed to for a long time. I dated a guy who was a huge fan and I was subjected to it over and over again, protesting all the way. Till I realized that I was opposed to it because "adults" don't watch cartoons, the humor is not "adult" enough, all these so-called "adult" cartoons are stupid and a waste of time. It took a while, but I realized that I was being a prudish, narrow-minded stick in the mud who needed desperately to LIGHTEN UP!!!! I now thoroughly enjoy the Simpsons, and only ocassionally feel slighty guilty for watching. :yh_eyebro

The difference between the Simpsons and South Park is that the latter is for adults only. Yes , I watch it when it is on tv but I haven't seen it for a while. It's not hard to see why you like south park. It is gritty and down to earth.
