What have you done this year to help the Environment

Post by pantsonfire321@aol.com »

Everyones talking about people doing 'your bit' for the Environment and becoming 'greener' (so to speak) so have any of you guys changed your day to day habits to become greener.

We've tried, we've gone from a gas guzzling 4X4 to an Audi A6(estate) and we recycle and compost :D. We even grow our own vegetables, we stated renting an Allotment last march so all our fruit and veg is 100% organic and if you think about it ......that helps when you think about all the packaging on some of the stuff you buy in the supermarket . I know it's only a small amount when you look at the bigger scheme of things but we all need to have a go, at least.

We could still do better and will in 2008 so what about you guys ????

This isn't really 'greener' but I started buying only free range chicken and eggs.

I know there's a LOT more I should do.

I recycle, no, I RECYCLE!

I told my husband one night as we were carrying out three bags, "The city ought to give me a medal for all the recycling I do."

Very proud I was until I heard him mutter, "They ought to give you a ticket."

:-2 :)
When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.

I recycle more, moved into a smaller house 2 miles from work instead of 22, started a wetland construction project, compost, started a project to reduce waste water flow to a treatment plant...that's about it this year.

Oh, oh...I held my nose and watched Al Gore's movie...he's a politician and his lips were moving so there was only one conclusion I could come to.

I took the stock exhaust off of my bike and put some really loud pipes on thus eliminating any emission control it once had.

We replaced all the bulbs in our house with those fluorescent ones. Suppose to use less electricity, last longer, and lower your electric bill.

Hi Pants,

All we had to do was ring a phone no & this company came & replaced for nothing.

We gave the company a small donation.

As you say it all helps:-6:-6

There are places where streams have been narrowed in their channels to allow the land around them to be used for other things. Where possible it is good to recreate the wetland area they once sustained. It requires analyzing the soils and plant life around the stream to determine where the boundary should be. It also requires a careful design to slow the stream down and spread it out so it will be able to support wetland vegetation that returns or is planted as part of the project.

The value of doing this is improved water quality. Wetlands are the earth's liver.

The project I'm beginning will help clean up stormwater collected in a city before it returns to the river. We also hope to create habitat for birds and other animals that thrive in wetlands in a way that will allow human interface.

It's a pretty small project...no big deal. Most people do what they have the opportunity to do.
