How serious do you take them at your work place?

Do you think that ethics and morals go hand in hand?

Is smoking unethical?

Code of Ethics

Post by Chezzie »

I work for the NHS and as we deal primarily with womens cervical and breast test records plus we have access to other information, I take the private and confidentiality code of conduct very seriously indeed.

At times my code of conduct in the workplace has been a tad lairy, as in we have a great laugh together and sometimes out laughter is frowned upon by management.

We are now not allowed to have our mobile phones on in work anymore which I adhere to but our bosses still have theirs on:thinking:

We have now been told we are longer able to accept private calls unless urgent but my bosses husband rings her every day:thinking:

We have now been told we are no longer able to listen to the radio in work due to some law and needing a performing rights licence, I just accepted this rule but others really made a fuss, but alas still no radio.

Not sure if i kept on topic, I sorta rambled as per usual lol...soz wendy x:-4

In my field, working with alcoholics/addicts - more specifically in an inpatient detox - confidentiality reins supreme, from the client's perspective especially. As far as I'm concerned, regarding ethics codes - it's the most important "code" I have to follow as it protects not only the therapeutic relationship I have with my clients/patients, it also, if observed correctly, ensures those clients that they're care comes first. Nothing is more difficult for a patient to overcome than a negative, past issue with a counselor. As far as professionally, my licensing board holds ethics violations at the top of the "no-no" list, which is as it should be.

I'll tell ya something else too. The ethics code makes my job a helluva lot easier. Example - I come from a small community and lots of times it's difficult to avoid running into clients. To avoid sticky situations I always advise my clients of the rules I have to follow so they are aware of what I can and cannot do in terms of that small community deal. Plus, when they ask me if they can wash my car, I can tell them it ain't allowed :D

I take codes of ethics very seriously, and I believe ethics and morals do go hand in hand. Right now, I have two jobs. One in food service. Diners should be damn glad that my morals effect my decision to constantly wash my hands, cover my mouth, and refrain from exploring any orofice of my body while working. Landscape clients would appreciate knowing that my calculated hourly rate does not increase for the wealthy, and that I respect your property while I am working there unsupervised.

Smoking may be unhealthy........but it's not unethical. However, if you smoke in an area that is marked "no smoking", you are being unethical .....inconsiderate of others.

In an office environment, there are people who believe they are "above" rules and regulations.............like the infamous "diva" in my office. And actually, these folks live their personal lives the same way. I can't live their lives for them.........but I can live mine. I do have a conscience and moral standards that I live by. They won't be shoved into anyone's face. But they are there..just the same...if anyone cared to look.

Well, a person can only try. I try, others around me try, but in a school going to be restructured, we are having a hard time keeping it together. I know I will not lie on public documents or will try to do my best for my students. Learning will take place, and lessons done. But the teachers who are leaving-50%! I found that out this week! I am always clueless! They have shut down, and it is only beginning of second semester. The administration has given up, and lets kids run amok in the halls. We have to monitor everything and take the prime position of authority, but it is hard.

I think that's a problem everywhere. Having only the few that abide by an ethics code. Some of the things I see in my field are shocking to me, and so many things go unpunished, but it still doesn't mean we, as individuals, have to give in. It's not always easy, but sticking to our own personal morals/ethics matters.
