Now, what do you do when a family member tells you a hush-hush secret? Do you honor their confidentiality, go to another family member right away and try to find out if it is true, or just wait it out?

:)

I heard a happy one today, I tend to just wait it out until it is officially announced.

Did you agree to confidentiality before you were told - if so your hands are tied.

Generally wait it out unless it could hurt someone else by being hidden.

In this case, congratulations on the good news.

Oh yes, I promised not to tell. It is a happy secret.:)

Oh Bryn, if it was something that would hurt someone, that is a different thing altogether.

I am happy for your happy secret!!....those are the best kind.

I used to be a blabber mouth, but learned my lesson a long time ago....so I do keep secrets, I have a big one that I've known for years and I have vowed to never tell one person in the family....it would hurt them deeply and probably change their life completely.....would be devastating, so...Wendy keeps her big trap shut!!!

The last conversation I had with my Dad's mother was probably 7 years ago. She told me my dad has a half sister. He doesn't know but he knows her. I told Mom but haven't and won't tell dad.

This happens so rarely, that I don't know. Hmm no one has ever told me anything big that I would have wanted to tell someone else

Mine is similar to that.....can I ask why you have decided not to tell?? would it hurt your dad or were you asked not to tell?

the secret I carry, there are MANY people in the family that know, I found out by the slip of a tongue when I was 30 years old...and got confirmation of its truth, the person that it is about doesn't know until this day, yet many of us do....I won't tell because of who the secret started with.
