Odd words and expressions?

Post by RedGlitter »

I was wondering if this could be a thread for explaining the different regional words and expressions we all use?

For instance, I've since figured out that "nowt" means "nothing." I'm guessing you pronounce it like "snout" with an "ow" sound?

There are quite a few I've wondered about but offhand they're not coming to me. Maybe some others can post some?

And if I ever say anything unknown to anyone, just let me know.

:)

Heh heh....those are pretty funny, Hoppy. I'll never eat beans again without thinking of that. :D

These are good....keep posting. I wish I could remember some of the British terms I was curious about...I'll keep an eye out for them.

Up until I was probably 12, our family name for safety pins was be-stills. No doubt from Mom telling me to be still when she was pinning diapers. I swear I thought everyone called them that. :wah:
