Were you street wize long before you should have been?

Did you see things at an early age that you should never have seen & know stuff that really only adults should know?

How has that impacted you now?

Oh yes--------Exposed to porn at age 5 (found pictures), accousted by child molesters off and on from age 7 to 12 (attempted molestation). Witnessed sexual activity by accident on several occasions before age 15.

I don't believe that any of the foregoing had a negative effect on me as an adult other that to realize that such things could be happening to my own children as they were growing up.

I had a very sheltered childhood, and probably I am still quite naive today because of it. But it was a good childhood, would not have wanted it any other way.

I grew up way to fast..took on alot of responsibility..babysitting for small children during the summer when their parents worked..i worked for one family twelve or more hours a day all summer. i was smart, in bookwise ways..could put anything together. what i didnt learn was to be street smart. i was always either with small children or grown adults..i missed the normal teenage shenanagins alot of kids go through. I never learned to play the games people play. my friends now are either older than me or several years younger..probably for the same reasons..i just never fit in with my own age group. I saw alot..by association, as a kid..knew about adults having affairs . (my neighbors andstuff) was aware of the drug scene then and who was doing it..even saw the inside of a major drug cartel house once..but i never participated. for whatever reasons i chose another route.

I don't know about being street-wise, but I was generally considered to be wiser in general, and much more mature than other children my age. I had the same toys, played the same games that other children did, but my idea of fun developed rather quickly... I was much more apt to pick up a book to read or want to learn something new, than most children my age. I had a craving for knowledge that to this day, still hasn't slowed down.

I spent my teen years in & out of foster group homes. Nuff said, I hope. It helps me relate to kids fighting to succeed in tough circumstances, and keep things that well-meaning but ignorant people say in perspective.
