How Are You Doing?

Post by Lon »

OK------the stock market is down big time, world markets are down, banks are failing, bankruptcies continue, housing values decline even more.

So how are you doing?

What's your biggest concern?

How Are You Doing?

My concern is my grown children trying to cope. They all have good jobs and are doing ok now, but the future for the next generation is not too bright from where I sit. If they can whether the shake out all the current excesses are causing they may be ok, but then they will have to cope with the national debt and the many problems that will cause in the years ahead.

Americans are learning what happens when you live above your means, the Federal Government is next.

In this case the past is not indicative of the future.

well with Gustav, not well. But before that. My hubby and i are worried about his 401K. But La. has good employment. No giant layoffs here, YET. But I am worried. The oil field could go from boom to bust in a New York Minute!! I was in La. in the 80's. Not a pretty sight. At that time. you could rent a lovely 3 bedroom home for around $200 a month. People were desperate. Plus i grew up in the Midwest when the mills went under. Very hard times then. We are white knuckling now.

Don't panic over the 401(k), now is not the time to shift from stocks and lock in your losses, leave it alone and keep saving as much as you can. This too shall pass. It may take five years or more, but ride it out. The biggest mistake people make with their 401(k) is to try and beat the market and to track their account on a daily basis. Of course, how long before you will need to money to live on should dictate your new investments going forward.

My life remains relatively unchanged and my concern is primarily for our adult children and particularly grand children who I am afraid will be the ultimate beneficiaries of past and present private sector and governmental financial mismanagement. No matter who is elected in the forthcoming election, there will be no quick fix.

In light of last nights Banking news down there, I am concerned for all of our southern neighbors. I can't imagine what you must be feeling in this time of instability.

Up here in the north we are told we won't feel much of a fall out except maybe for travel.

I can only send beams to those of you feeling this pinch. It is rotten for us to stand by and helplessly watch. :(
