Okay, I understand journals. People post stuff in there and other's can't reply. What I don't get are blogs. How are they different from posting in a forum?? :-2 Other than the aesthetics, I don't see a difference.

At first glance they might seem the same thing, both technically and socially. But at final glance, although forum software and blogs end up sharing a great many features, there are unique differences between them.
Blogs are like a keynote speech where the speaker (blogger) is in control of the discussion, but allows questions and comments from the audience.
Blogs are journals often authored by one individual, and sometimes teams. In the context of business communication, these are often used to talk with the marketplace and to join the conversation that existing external bloggers may be having.
Forums are like social mixers, where everyone is at equal level, milling about and discussing with others. These many to many communication tools allow anyone to start a topic and anyone to respond to one. Members are often at equal level, and content is usually segmented by topic. (rather than by people).

Im thinking people own blogs. In other words I have this to say and its mine, especially if its a steady stream of thoughts from day to day or week to week.
Kind of like snap shots into someones mind that they choose to share. Some people do it on you tube as a preferred medium.
I enjoy visiting action figure stephos blogs because shes an interesting writer and self depracating in a humorous way, a form of honesty I appreciate.
Society is evolving into something new and people are expressing them in the ways that are comfortable to them.

So I can pick and choose who I allow to post in my blog?

yes, you can go to Blog Options and then Edit preferences and permissions for your blog and somewhere you can tick a box that only allows your contacts to post a reply etc...I havent gone through the whole list but theirs a few filters you can apply.
