How Nice The Laptop

Here I sit in a room at the "Holiday Inn Express" 300 miles from home utilizing the high speed connection that is available in this room. killing some time until a family dinner later in the day where thirty people will congregate at my daughter's home to see the newest of the group, baby Abigail, my first great grandaughter. I could watch TV for a couple of hours but find it more productive to bring my diminishing retirement assets up to date, answer email and of course visit FG. The nice thing about lap tops and traveling is that it's like you haven't really left to go any where. I leave for New Zealand on the 4th of November and of course will take my laptop, the scenery will change, I'll be in a different time zone, eating slightly different food, drinking decent beer, but still be in touch with my news sources, email contacts, investments, banking, bill paying, just like I had never left. Amazing, I love it!!

If you cast your mind back to when you used to make the journey without international air travel, when passenger boats took two weeks to go each way and long-distance voice calls needed an operator to connect them, what you can do now must all seem like a new world.

How true-----------for the past 18 years, my annual visits have been a breeze despite the 12 1/2 hour flight from Los Angeles. I do think back on reading about Captain Cook and his many months at sea, years if you total all his trips.

Get a Webcam for that laptop and you can see your kids, grandkids, and great grandkids daily if you like.

I agree Lon...I love my laptop. I took it to Florida 2 summers ago when I spent 5 weeks there. We had cable outside my room and in all the pubs in town. You could just walk to the pub with your laptop, and eat, drink and be merry.

Love to carry it around with me too and sit outside on a nice day:-6I should have bought one years ago.

I'm with you Lon. I traveled a lot this past summer and spent a lot of time in motel rooms. While the kiddos relaxed with cartoons or used the beds as trampolines, I kept in touch with everyone and checked all my fav websites.

The biggest advantage is that I'm back in school full time, all online. I've got a couple of trips coming up that will have me away from home for several days. I'll still be able to keep up with my classes and turn in assignments via my laptop because they are all online classes and I'm not required to go into a traditional classroom setting. Sweet!
