If you had to spend a year on a dessert Island, what would be the one thing you'd take??

With me, it'd have to be that one essential...... My Mascara

I'd take an unbreakable non-networked solar-powered laptop shoulder-bag I'd configured myself. Assuming I could survive on the island, the laptop would be more than enough to let me do things I want to do. I'd be annoyed if it ever broke, mind.

The boat out of sand's easy, you just need a draught-fed fire to dessicate the right sort of rock to mix with the sand before you layer it onto pre-formed wood moulds. If you can re-use the moulds you get parts with matched attachment points which allows the boat design to be modular.

You don't get pygmies on a desert island, you get rather tall and quite often well-fed skilled navigators and their fun-loving womenfolk who all know a lot about building shelters and would happily help out if asked nicely.
