EMS, Fire and Police funerals

Post by devist8me »

Anyone attended a funeral of this type?

I've unfortunately attended about a dozen in my lifetime. Taps being played, the retiring of the persons radio number over the radio, a moment of silence, missing man formations done with helos/planes or a helicopter doing it's final flight for the person is the most emotional thing I've ever experienced.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

Too many.

Taps is the worst for me especially on bagpipes.

We used to stand in two lines facing each other as the casket passed though us. Trying not to cry is the worst. Now, I just let it go and cry if I want.

We have an Honor guard that does the pall bearer thing and a bugel player. But recently we got one of those mechanical bugles that plays as you pretend to play. You know, it's hard to find a good bugle player anymore. We were talking about it one day and got to thinking how horrible (and yes, funny) it would be if it broke in the middle of taps and began sounding like a skipping record, playing the same few notes over and over. :wah::-1 (sorry, a little dark humor there)

If it happened at my funeral, (God forbid I die any time soon, spit, spit, spit, knock on wood) I think everyone would laugh and know that I was laughing with them.:D
When choosing between two evils, I always like to take the one I've never tried before.
