Yes indeedie. And we have seen how effective government management of funds is. :-5 Yes sir!
With all the speculation as to whether Social Security will be there for us, they want to make our own financial preparations for retirement even more iffy by diminishing the the possibility of growth in 401K's!
I think we need to start a list.
Day 1 after the election: Stock Market is down 486 points.

I really do hope that British people are reading this.
We all complain here about everything and anything. The truth is, we are very lucky in this country. We don't have to worry about half of the things America does and yet dispite having things in our country that every British person should be bloody proud of, all they do is knock our government.
We have a NHS system. If you work, you pay a weekly or monthly contribution. What it costs is a pittance compared to what's on offer. People who work do not take preference over those who don't. If you are a tramp, worker or even an illegal immigrant, you will get free health care. No-one has to worry about health Insurence either.
We also have a benifit system that is the envy of other countrie's. Even if you work and your pay is not enough to pay your bills, this is topped up by Income support benifit or Family credit. It is illegal here to employ anyone and pay them under the government minimum wage.
I could go on, but i will just add that since the financial crisis, in the past two weeks, Britain has seen a slash in fuel prices with further cuts expected. We have had a slash in grocery prices and again, further cuts due as the supermarket giants have gone into a price war with each other. Only a few days ago, we have had a slash in bank interest rates since our Prime Minister bought the banks out and sacked the chiefs and directors.
We also have something called 'Pension credit'. This for anyone who does not have a private pension or who has not worked. The moment they reach 60 yrs old, they have their benifit money doubled. On top of this, our government gives anyone over 60 yrs old and on pension credit or their own pension a yearly 'cold weather payment' of £200 for increases in fuel during the winter.
I am sick of the whiney arssholes who take all of this for granted in this country. They should be bloody proud as well as being proud of what our Prime Minister Gordon Brown has achieved just in the past few weeks since the market crashed.

It's odd what people will blame someone for.
There's a world of difference between a wild far-fetched mid-October committee presentation by a passing academic playing what-if and "401's bite the dust". Nobody's offered to implement it. Nobody's discussed the consequences. I doubt very much whether the President-elect's even heard of it and you're blaming him for the end of private pension plans?
Surely there must be a more coherent way of discussing the consequence of this change of government, this level of discussion is just a waste of bandwidth and reading time.
How about if we draw up a list of what we'd each like to see implemented during the first four years? I expect we could even get close to agreement if we did that.

Paragraph 2: My thoughs may not meet your standards, but in a discussion forum, I should be able to express them
Paragraph 3: I'm sure we could. Let's start the list off with "PEACE".

"To ravage, to slaughter, to usurp under false titles, they call empire; and where they make a desert, they call it peace". That was written in the first century and it's still the standard abuse of language where war's concerned.
Do you mean Peace as in fiercer fighting, or Peace as in not killing people week in week out? When do you last remember a month when a plane didn't deliver a bomb around Afghanistan and wipe out yet another wedding party? Do the Taliban have planes?

No I don't remember Bush's words. But this reminds me of an antiwar parable written by Mark Twain called "The War Prayer". Have you read it?
It was written during the Philippine-American War in the first decade of the 20th Century. It tells of a patriotic church service held to send the town's young men off to war. During the service, a stranger enters and addresses the gathering. He implies to the patriotic crowd that their prayers for victory are double-edged -- that by praying for victory they are also praying for the destruction of the enemy ... for the destruction of human life.
I think you might enjoy this read.
And, when I say PEACE, I mean no war (no hostilities or killing).

They volunteered. No doubt they had a variety of reasons for volunteering but it was their choice to sign up. I have absolutely no sympathy whatever for the fact that they find themselves in a war zone, it's self-inflicted. No issue of patriotism overrides the fact that civilians are dying as a direct consequence of their choice.
It has nothing to do with Armistice remembrance, the people commemorated there were either obeying conscription orders or voluntarily standing alongside those who were conscripted. Thats a whole different world.

As for your direct question above, just to be complete, the answer's about one a month, which I think is what the army normally puts up with in training losses. All they've done is switched their training exercises for rather more realistic conditions, they've not increased the average personal risk across the entire Armed Forces.
Anyhow. Peace. How to conduct US Foreign Relations without industrialized death breaking out.
Afghanistan? "As president, I would pursue a new strategy, and begin by providing at least two additional combat brigades to support our effort in Afghanistan". "We need more troops, more helicopters, better intelligence-gathering and more nonmilitary assistance to accomplish the mission there". Plain enough? Four more years of this generation's Vietnam with a guarantee of the same end once it's over. People just never learn.
Palestine/Israel? I don't think so, much as it's needed. "We must preserve our total commitment to our unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance". President Obama's as solidly locked in with Apartheid Israel as George Bush was.
Cuba? Is there even the slightest reason why that idiotic embargo should stay in place? This is just US pride at its worst and it's unjust. Is President Obama going to lift it? No, sadly. Fidel has to die first to save US face.
China? What can he do, he's stuck with the fact that China's out from under and does its own thing from now on.
Iran? See Israel. I'd love to see the US and Iran lovey-dovey but it's not going to happen. It's in both their national interests but the Elephant In The Corner Of The Room won't allow it.
Iraq, thank goodness, is over. One can only hope that the Iraqi government can hold out until the new year without being forced into a new agreement with the departing Bush.

I left out Russia for some reason. "I wholeheartedly condemn the violation of Georgia's sovereignty", that stuff. Sly fox Russia was watching and waiting and the idiot Georgians just had to react to provocation and invade South Ossetia. Bloody fools. Yes of course the Georgians were egged into it by the Russians and, I think, by the Americans as well. Anyone backing Georgia is barking up a lost tree.
As for the idiocy of planting front-line missiles in Poland and pretending they're to protect Western Europe from the Iranians - seriously, that's just begging for a reaction and it's got one. Either President Obama withdraws US advance radar and missile bases from the old Eastern Bloc or he can have the entire cold war back in spades and Russia arming the Taliban in just the same way the CIA armed the Mujahedeen in the 1980s. At least if President Obama mends fences with Russia the Taliban will only have China as arms suppliers. "To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom. Their courage teaches us a great lesson - that there are things in this world worth defending". (That's a quote from Ronald Reagan if anyone's wondering).

Will Obama mend fences with Russia? Or, will he totally back down leaving Europe to do his work?

Why do you call mending fences "backing down"? Who wanted confrontation in the first place apart from that bunch of war criminals currently leaving office?

And Obama brings peace on earth and goodwill to all men does he?? Not yet Spot. All he has done is talk and talk and talk.
We have actually seen him do nothing but spend vast quantity's on his campaign.
Bush is not out yet, things may change with Iraq and Afghanistan before he goes.

He refused government financing, he refused payments from lobbyists, he took huge amounts from supporter donations under $200 each. There was a discussion of the funding a couple of weeks ago in the Houston Chronicle as a starter. I'm not sure what more his team could have done to be open and transparent about where the money came from. A lot of small individual contributors wanted him to win and divvied up to get him there.

I'm quite sure you're right. It's why I rather flew into the air when I saw "Day 2 after the election: 401's bite the dust".
