Laptop Touch pad problem
My settings have been changed somehow.
I like my touch pad to not have the "double tap" enabled. Meaning, I just want to scroll with the touch pad and use the left click to actually click something.
I can't find how to switch it back. Help!

I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

InstructionsDifficulty: Easy
Step1Click on the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of the screen. Select "Control Panel." Next select "Mouse" under "Hardware and Sound." You can also left-click the touchpad while the cursor is anywhere on the desktop. From that screen, choose "Mouse Pointers."
Step2Select the "Buttons" tab at the top of the dialog box that opens. This shows the type of touchpad device installed on your laptop.
Step3Set the touchpad for right or left-handed use from this dialog box. You can adjust the double click speed of your computer as well. When you finish making any changes, click "Apply."
Step4Pick
the "Device Settings" tab from the dialog box now. You can see the touchpad for your Vista machine highlighted on this screen. Select "Settings."
Step5Read the information provided in the next dialog box. It gives you options for tapping your touchpad, using the buttons, scrolling, pointer motion and sensitivity.
Step6Make any changes you want from the various topics. When you make a change, click "Apply." Click "OK" when you finish making all your changes.
Step7Do some work on your computer for a while. If the touchpad is still too sensitive, return to the "Mouse" menu and continue to adjust the settings until you get them just the way you want them.

Could anyone tell me, please, how I could disable my touchpad. I don't need it in fact and sometimes it even bothers me. My computer runs Windows XP. Thanks in advance for your answer(s).

What's the model? Some laptops disable the touchpad in the BIOS.

Yes, I think it's my case, 'cause I cannot find a switch in the control panel. It's a Fujitsu - Siemens (Amilo).

Do you have the model code?
I've stolen this bit just so it's here - the touchpad part of the control panel, if you have the synaptec driver, is usually in
1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel. With Control Panel in Category View, click Printers and Other Hardware.
2. In the Printers and Other Hardware window, click the Mouse icon.
3. In the Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Device Settings tab, and then click Settings.
4. To modify a touchpad setting, click the + in front of the setting you want to change, and then modify the setting.
5. To save changes, click OK.

It's b199d972a9 or T2250 I think.
Well, I cannot find in the control panel -> printers and other hardware -> mouse - anything that could help me with my touchpad. In my opinion it's the case you've described - some laptops disable the touchpad in the BIOS. Thanks for your help.

I checked their manual, their driver download area, their forum - there's no help there, not even for the BIOS settings. They tell you about F2 at boot time to get into it but nothing about what's in there to change.
If it were me I'd get the vista generic driver from Drivers | Synaptics and disable it in the control panel after installing it.
