Only 10% of the world's population are left handed and yet Obama, both Bushes, Clinton, Reagan, Ford, Truman, Hoover, Garfield are or were lefties. There is no clear cut evidence as to presidents prior to Garfield.

Care to make anything out of this?

I watched a documentary about Bill Gates last night.....he is left handed.

I've also been watching a programme called 'Secret Millionaire' and noticed that most of them are left handed. These are Millionaires that have come from humble beginnings and worked hard to achieve.

I have 8 grandchildren and 1 is left handed and good at sport which I am not surprised at as left handed people are supposed to have quick reactions........ It appears that left handed people are also above average ahievers in other aspects of thier lives.........interesting. :-6

Only 2 of our Prime Ministers have been left handed....apparently.....Winston Churchill and James Callaghan

News here spoke to the issue of left-handedness and they said that though they are left handed they do many things right handed also. By doing this they use both sides of their brains and therefore have a greater resource within themselves to solve problems and/or create new solutions.

There use to be a time (like only 30 years ago and before) that in school it was regarded to wrong to write left handed (well in Ireland anyway, I don’t know about other places). If you were left handed you were forced to learn how to write with your right hand.

The nuns who taught my uncle used to tie his left hand to the chair and forced him to write right handed. My dad lucked out with a nice teacher in first grade and she didn't force it with him. My son is also a lefty or Southpaw as we like to call him. He's very good at sports too.:wah:

My own father was left handed, and he would have his hand slapped with a ruler by his teacher is he was caught writing with it. He then was also always in trouble for not having neat handwriting. ( no wonder)

My uncle always used to run away from school because of it. Finally my grandparents went to the school and had the nuns stop as he was in danger of failing first grade. Does your dad write left handed now?

Laterality in animals is also called limb dominance. Most race tracks are run counter-clockwise, which favors right-side dominant horses, as they take a longer stride with the right foreleg, which helps them turn to the left. Trainers of left eye dominant horses may put a blinder on the left eye to encourage the horse to turn the head slightly to the left and to take a longer step with the right foreleg just as right-side dominant horses do. Parrots tend to favor one foot when grasping objects (for example fruit when feeding). Some studies indicate that most parrots are left footed. Polar bears generally kill their prey using their left paw. Some types of mastodon indicate laterality through the fossil remains having differing tusk lengths.

My 1st teacher tried that with me until my mother found out...I'm still left handed. Its a strong sign of creativity - Mozart, Beethoven and other composers and artisits were all left handed. Such genius....:-6

that shows you how things can get mixed up, it's probably because the first Bush was and people get confused.

one interesting thing though, in the election where Bush, Clinton and Ross Perot were all 3 running we would have had a left-handed president no matter who had won because they are all 3 lefties! :D

He lied:mad:. Bill Clinton creamed him in the next election...I remember the slogan "It's the economy stupid":wah:. Now, that was an exciting election...voted for him twice.:wah: I'm a die heart Democrat.

when i was in the first grade there was a boy who was left handed too, but he curled his hand around really badly, the teacher was going around watching each of us write, when she got to him i remember her taking the pencil out of his left hand and putting it in his right and trying to make him right-handed!

so naturally i was a little anxious, but i don't curl my hand around so when she got to me even though i was left-handed too, she didn't say anything about it!

My mother is left-handed too and i always remember one day her brother-in-law saw her write something and said, i didn't know you were left-handed, i knew there was something wrong with you, i just didn't know what! :-5

that was a very hurtful thing to me as a left-handed child, thinking that there was something wrong with being left-handed! :(
