Hail To The Chief

Post by Nomad »

I know Jester I know. ;)

Ive never loved my President before.

I love my President now.

Lets face it about 50% of you will disagree as evidenced by the stony reaction on the Republican side of the chambers in Obamas address tonight.

But I think this guy has some special qualities. For once I dont feel like Im being bullsh!tted.

This guy whether you dislike his politics or not has long term realistic vision and I think hes going to be a work horse.

I like him, he seems down to earth, honest and will get things done.
Life is just to short for drama.

Stony?!? According to MSNBC talking head the republicans gave him standing O's 33 times.

I haven't seen the speech yet. I DVR'd it. I don't understand how one can't feel bullshitted when he spends hundreds of billions of dollars one day then turns around and tries to preach fiscal responsibility the next. When he rails against waste and says we should scrutinize every line item before approving spending, but rams a 1000-page spending package through without anyone - anyone! - having read it.

Jester

He's long on words and short on action- he didn't reassure me in the least. First off its all smoke mirrors, the economy although in bad shape, isn't nearing the level of destruction this guy keeps preaching.

I can't believe him, I want too, believe me I do, but you cant spend our way out of this, it's impossible.

You're stubborn. Watch, listen, give them time. Hes working.

Yes thats true. He started the speech with the fiscal package and there was stone cold silence. It took them awhile to warm up. In total he recieved twice that in standing ovations so they were half in it.

Why act surprised ? Everyone knew what was coming. His campaign changed dramatically the day banks and investment firms started going belly up. Hes playing the hand he was dealt.

When he rails against waste and says we should scrutinize every line item before approving spending, but rams a 1000-page spending package through without anyone - anyone! - having read it.

He followed through on his commitment and he did it expediently and with urgency.

If we were still haggling and fine tuning and Ill give you this for that many more would be bitching about that and the ugly deadlock would be business as usual.

I'd rather have deadlock than socialism.

He's spending a TRILLION BORROWED dollars on fluff. He wants to stimulate BORROWING as a means to advance the economy.

Does everybody not see that borrowing is what got us into this mess in the first place?

Socialism is just a phrase word people are latching onto and throwing around all nilly willy. Like Limbaugh likes to call Obama the Messiah. Its meant to degrade the truth.

Like it or not were in it now so buckle up.

And I'm not using it like a catch phrase, Im calling it what it is. The government lead by Obama is setting americans up to be held ransome by constant life long debt, to pay for social programs the federal government should have no part in.

Can I assume this means we had no business providing all those trailers for the Katrina victims ?

Is this the kind of programs were talking about ?

Constant borrowing is going to ruin us, just like it has the failed businesses that stuck out thier neck in a tough economic world environment. Everyone who follows Obama's plan will end up in debt, owing the man all thier lives, and never get ahead.

Who doesnt have a 20 or 30 yr mortgage ? Is that the kind of borrowing you mean ?

Why arent you concerned about the billions we spend overseas on people that despise us ? Id really like to know.

He's killing all opportunity for the american dream.

My dreams are alive as ever. The world is my oyster. Are your dreams really dead ?

If so how ?

I don't know Jester. 8 years ago I was doing pretty good. My income was rising annually, my pension fund was increasing in value and social security looked like it might just hold out until I reached it.

That's all in the past. The notion that some folks try to blame it on the democrats last 2 years control of congress, that just boggles the mind. And the idea that now that Obama is in, all the same idiots who got us here are criticizing every move of someone who is trying.. that is laughable. Where were these folks when we were being driven to bankruptcy? Where were these folks before I got 15 years added to my work life?

If these folks are such experts, why didn't they have the balls to act before the fact, rather then **** and moan after the fact?

One thing I would do here. Reduce the benefits of EVERYONE on the government payroll, subsidies or support - by the same percent as working America has seen their income adjusted. It sucks that folks getting handouts are getting annual increases while my annual income has been heading the other way..and I get to pay for their increases!
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

Be responsible.

Many of the citizens who now find themselves in foreclosure are as responsible for their plight as the predatory lenders that let them sign on the dotted line knowing full well they had a slim chancing of fulfilling the agreement.

Be pro active in over seeing your retirement needs.

Get involved in civic affairs, thats good for everyone especially you. The reward of giving outweighs the sacrifice.

Hold your representatives accountable. Its your duty and privelage to speak directly with your government. Believe it or not they are responsive because they want to be re-elected.

We are their bread and butter so to speak.

I myself have actually had my congressman call my home after an inquiry. I have been to my congressmans office and they have resolved problems beyond my capabilities.

They work for you.

There are literally hundreds of things you can do to cause an effect in your own community. What if everyone got involved ? Can you imagine how strong we could become.

We could start wiping out crime, making our neighborhoods safer, our schools more productive.

And as a stress reliever once in awhile we could bomb some insinificant country just to keep the momentum going.

If Washington is haggling and deadlocking the markets would be turning by now. It's the meddling that's keeping investment dollars out of the market. There's no way to predict what a fickle, impulsive congress will do, so investors are keeping their money out. Nobody wants to buy something that the gov't might take over; the stock would become instantly worthless.

He flubbed two facts about American history. The U.S. did not invent the automobile, and the transcontinental railroad was not completed until years after the Civil War, not during it.

Yes, you are a liberal Nomad.

Im not. I dont affiliate myself with one side or the other. I do have liberal leanings on some issues while I lean right on others. I consider myself a centrist.

I fall in the middle. As topics arise I assess them the best I can then decide for myself what my point of view is.

I remain open to matters as much as possible.

You can call me crap or sh!t but it has no bearing on how I define myself.
