I have been very concerned about the violence in Mexico. My husband travels there approximately every 2-3 years to audit companies that supply goods to the place he works.

When he arrives there he is picked up in an armored car with a car escort in front, behind and on the sides which then take him to where he is going.

Glenn Beck has recently been talking a lot about the drug cartels and murders and it worries me that many innocents are being caught betweeen their fighting.

What happens there will affect us here. I don't know why we are not more involved. This problem is right on our doorstep.

The problem is not at your doorstep, it is in your country. The reason the drug cartels are so big is because of the drug culture in the USA.

Even cocaine is flashed around on TV like it is a normal everyday product.

It can’t be ok to buy and use drugs, then complain about the drug cartels when it is the money that purchased the drugs that go directly to the cartels and pay for their weapons.

Bust up the drug culture, put the pushers and dealers in jail with no leniency, get the crack & heroin addicts off the streets and stop throwing pity them parties for their self inflicted addictions.

Clean up the streets

Then the cartels will start losing their grip.

We can't even get tobacco banned, when it is a known to be cancer causing. If you have a way of enlightening people so that these changes could be made, it would be most welcomed. Just saying 'no' hasn't done it.

It is no easy solution, and I don’t have the answer, however, giving out free needles at clinics and people accepting drug use as a normal ok social thing to do does not help the situation. The media idolizes drug addicts like Amy Winehouse and celebrate movie starts who go in and out of rehab like it is normal.

Addiction is a terrible thing and leads to many of the evils in the world. Giving out needles helps prevent the spread of disease, namely AIDS. Doesn't mean it is right, but the result of not doing so is worse.

If we didn't honor the rights of the individual, we could just round up all the junkies and put them in tent cities in the desert to dry out. How's that for motive to get clean....... :D

I don’t disagree with you, but the original issue is the power and violence with the Mexican drug lords. When do drastic issues call for drastic measures?

In 2003 alone the US government spent $19 Billion on the war against drugs, if that was being spent on the banking bail outs people would go mad.

So when do the rights of the individual out-way the rights and safety of the general public? It is a ‘war’ on drugs, there is no war without casualties.

The issue is not just with the USA, it is everywhere, and something does need to be done.

I don't know a lot about drugs here in the States, let alone in the world. But I am aware it is a way to finance doing other things. Everything is so intertwined, it is difficult to unravel it without everything crashing.

Maybe if it did all crash, we could rebuild................ but I doubt things would greatly change. Evil has a nasty hold on people.

As long as there are people who worship money and power...

As long as there are people desperate to get that immediate "high" and will do anything to get it....

As long as gangs are wrongly made to represent loving families to many of our young people.......

....we will be having this drug war.
