Just this AM I was watching the news on TV and there were three items of news that really irritated me. One news item went on to report that "and elderly gentlemen was severely beaten by three young gentlemen", WHAT?? GENTLEMEN??
The second item was reported that "a young mother had passed away during a tornado" PASSED AWAY??? Hell's Fire Man, she was KILLED. She did not die of cancer or have a heart attack.
The third item was not as bad but still seems like an attempt to soften tragedy and violence. "The earthquake victims in Italy were laid to rest"
LAID TO REST???
Along with the ever present Politically Correct statements or criticisms of statements as not being politically correct, we have to endure this wishy washy reporting. Is this what is being taught in the schools of Journalism now?

(doubtfully) Well, I suppose I could try and tie antlers onto my squirrels, stick cotton wool on the pigeons, and knock down the neighbours....

My parents took me to the States in 1976 to stay with my mums American penfriend. They thought Upstairs Downstairs was a true picture of how we lived and were amazed when we didn't step off the plane in Edwardian costume! :wah:

I think the first one is kind of dumb as well but the second two... can be touchy... i mean i would rather not people get annoyed at me for being heartless..

I have never heard news reported that way here either, Lon. No soft expressions like "laid to rest" or "passed away" in a newscast.

:wah: Except for the "sheep in the meadows" that sounds like southeast Georgia. We have cow pastures.
And no moors either.

I revised it to make it more realistic for you Lon.
(CNN) -- A sixth person has bled out from a bullet severing an artery traveled to his left lung exploding the soft tissue on impact then settling in his spleen after a shooting in a townhouse in Santa Clara, California, police said Monday.
Police found five people, shot to a bloody pulp with brain and internal organ tissue splattered across the length of the room Sunday night in the townhouse.
A person died overnight from gunshot wounds that pierced an eyeball riveting a burning hole through his brain finally resting in the spinal cord from which leaked milky bone marrow onto the new carpet leaving an unsightly yellowish stain, said Lt. Phil Cooke of the Santa Clara Police Department.
An adult female remains in the hospital Monday in critical condition with a gaping ragged hole the size of a quarter in her neck. The effect was vivid and gruesome as blood spurted more than 9' in a rythmic pulsating action that resembled a fountain found on the strip in Las vegas, Cooke said.
Police were called to the scene after a neighbor noticed an injured person outside the home around 8:30 p.m. (11:30 p.m. ET) Sunday, Cooke said. When police arrived, other victims were found inside.
The shootings are thought to be part of a murder-suicide, with the shooter believed to be one of the dead lifeless lumps of rotting flesh infested with maggots excavating through the bloated corpse, according to Cooke.
The names of the victims are being withheld as the investigation continues.
