Peter Lake is a tosser......

He has been on the river for 13 hous with one of the countries match winning Barbel cup winners trying to catch that elusive record breaking Barbel.

They even changed swims four or five times.

After many hours, he hooked a Barbel. It could be seen well due to the clarity of the water and appeared by all acounts to be the record breaker. It hooked and took off. Apparently, due to him having his hand too heavy on the centre pin reel, the hook straightened, snapped and the Barbel swam off laughing.

The expert concluded that Peter Lake is a tosser.

Barbel are my fave British fish. They are like Torpedo's and are certainly the strongest in might and strength which is why they are so difficult to land and even catch. I know even Barbel experts who have hooked and it's taken anything up to an hour, reeling them in.

Here, the one's that got away don't count. They have to be landed, weighed and recorded. We do have very strict regs in our country for these fish when landing such as the correct landing mats to save injuring the fish and regs of how long the fish must be out of the water and the way it is put back in the water. We are kind. :-6

In my defence, i would like to point out that i did catch a record roach but this fish did not count as we were there on a barbel mission only. Also the river had several otters that were frightening the fish away. This was not taken into account and is my excuse.

To be fair, that must have been a heck of a fish to straighten a hook.
