This is a segment on a radio station where two people (listeners) ask each other questions. Look what they did ...........The mother should be shot and the radio host FIRED!!!!!!

KYLE and Jackie O today branded the fall-out from an on-air child rape revelation during their radio show as "weird" and a "big deal".

Shock jock Sandilands and co-host Jackie addressed the controversy at the start of their 6am (AEST) broadcast on 2DayFM this morning.

Jackie said she wished yesterday could be wiped, and said Sandilands was lucky to be doing the show from overseas this week.

The pair said they had "a weird experience" yesterday and calls were already coming in from listeners today on the issue.

Sandilands said: "We are going to talk about it after 8am."

He said they would dissect the media coverage and take calls "because it's a big deal".

No apology was made at the start of the show.

Yesterday Sandilands admitted he "floundered" on air after being told by a teenager that she had been raped when she was 12.

But the controversial radio host refused to apologise to listeners for the stunt that backfired, saying he "didn't realise" he had then asked the girl if the rape was her only sexual experience.

The incident sparked outrage and numerous calls to child welfare authorities, with the girl apparently forced by her mother to take part in a lie-detector test on the nationally syndicated breakfast show.

The mother submitted the teen to the test, a regular segment on the Kyle and Jackie O Show, concerned at her experiences with drugs and sex. Before the test, the girl told Sandilands on air: "I'm scared ... it's not fair."

Her mother asked her: "Have you ever had sex?" The 14-year-old replied: "I've already told you the story about this ... and don't look at me and smile because it's not funny."

After a pause, she raised her voice with frustration and said: "Oh OK, I got raped when I was 12 years old."

After another pause, Sandilands asked, "Right ... is that the only experience you've had?" before the mother admitted she knew of the rape. Her daughter yelled, "Yet you still asked me the question!"

The NSW Department of Community Services is investigating and the media watchdog is likely to investigate whether the segment breached the broadcasting code, The Australian reports.

Writing for The Punch website, Sandilands said the girl's revelation "sideswiped" him and that the mother had not said anything about the rape.

"To tell you the truth, I was floundering around, signalling to the producers and Jackie, down the camera, indicating that we had to get it off air," said Sandilands, who was not in the Sydney studio at the time but co-hosting the show from New Zealand.

"I didn't realise I had said 'Have you had any other experiences?'

"I went into a slight panic as to how to get the thing off the air and I was more focused on making that happen than on what I said."

After the revelation, the segment was swiftly concluded.

NSW Community Services Minister Linda Burney was "appalled". "Issues as serious and sensitive as rape or child abuse (are) not appropriate to be discussed on live radio. It was apparent that the announcers were only interested in shock value and entertainment and weren't at all concerned about the welfare and wellbeing of a 14-year-old."

DOCS obtained the names of the mother and daughter and will contact them to investigate the rape and offer counselling.

Austereo general manager Jenny Parkes said: "Clearly we didn't know anything about this traumatic incident. The moment we became aware of it was live on air and we brought it to an end as soon as we possibly could."

Karen Willis, manager of the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, said she has never before heard of a sexual assault victim being put in such a public situation.

"That poor little girl, being cornered like that and being forced to tell the truth," Ms Willis said.

"People who have been sexually assaulted think that everyone is watching them and that they know."

The girl could be "devastated" by knowing that listeners around the nation knowing she was raped, Ms Willis said.

"It's shocking stuff. What (the show) might like to do now is publicly apologise."

She also said the hosts should "redeem themselves" by airing rape counselling information and advice to victims.

But child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg said more serious action was needed and 2Day Fm should be shut down.

"This (incident) could potentially have some serious consequences on this girl," Dr Carr-Gregg said.

"I would call on the Australian Communications and Media Authority to recall their radio licence.

"I think FM radio has reached a new low."

He also said that if the licence wasn't revoked, Kyle Sandilands should be sacked.

What I want to know is whether the girl's mother was trying to prove her daughter was lying about this. Was the girl raped or was it a blatant lie to get attention or what was it?

Then my sympathies go with the poor girl. This is like a triple trauma for her. This is the problem with talk shows in general. No matter how much you research them, the public is an uncontrollable medium ultimately. But if this girl now gets the help she needs, then some good will come out of it.

KYLE Sandilands and Jackie O have been taken off air. The 2DayFM morning hosts outraged listeners last week with a segment where a 14-year-old rape victim was hooked up to a lie detector.

And their network last night said the duo would be off radio indefinitely. The pair appear on Fox FM in Melbourne.

Austereo Sydney general manager Jenny Parkes said Sandilands had alerted the network he was unable to go on air.

* Sally Morrell : Jackie O is oh so to blame

* The Punch: Kyle officially now off the air

* Poll: Has Austereo done the right thing by taking Kyle and Jackie O off the air?

"Kyle Sandiland's management has advised Austereo that he is unable to perform his duties on-air at this time," Ms Parkes said.

"Further, following a great deal of consideration and having consulted Jackie O and all stakeholders, Austereo has formed the view that it is in the interest of all parties for the Kyle and Jackie O Show to go into recess until we have completed an across-the-networks review of the principles and protocols of our interaction with our audience.

"This review commenced last Wednesday, 29 July, 2009."

That was the day the girl was interviewed on-air while strapped to a lie detector and quizzed by her mother about her drug and sex experiences.

Before the test, the girl told Sandilands she was scared and that "it's not fair".

Her mother then asked her daughter on air if she had ever had sex.

The girl replied she had been raped at 12.

Sandilands reacted by asking: "Is that the only experience you've had?"

He later tried to defend his actions, claiming he was taken by surprise by the girl's rape claim and that he blurted out his question while frantically trying to get the interview taken off air.

A spokeswoman for Austereo refused to say how long the program would be off air, or what program would replace the Kyle and Jackie O Show.

KYLE Sandilands is now, deservedly, one of the most loathed men in Australia. But why is Jackie O let off the hook?

Sandilands' giggling co-host was just as guilty as he was last week in subjecting a 14-year-old girl to a lie detector test on her sex life, leading her to blurt out she had been raped.

If anything, she betrayed the girl even more despicably and yet is almost excused, while Sandilands gets the rap.

Even Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard saw only one villain in this tacky twosome.

``I would say to Kyle that he should be thinking through what is in the best interests of the welfare of that young girl,'' she lectured.

Jackie O has somehow managed to come off as the "good guy'' in this scandalous exploitation of an unwilling girl who was forced to answer offensively personal questions about her sexual experience - actually rape - just so her mother could win concert tickets.

Herald Sun reader Lauren said we should cut Jackie O some slack: "She sounded mortified as soon as she found out and acted in a professional manner in cutting the segment straight away''.

Another reader praised her for having the "decency'' to end the segment as soon as the girl revealed she had been raped.

Cut her some slack? Decency? You've got to be kidding.

Sure, she ended the segment when the girl revealed she had been raped. But that's nothing to praise her for.

The decent thing to do would have been not to air the segment in the first place.

Well before her "heroic'' stance, Jackie O should have had the guts to say the whole idea of having a child asked questions about sex by her own mother in front of millions was horrendous and should never go to air.

But she didn't. No, Jackie O clearly thought it was just dandy to subject a child to public humiliation for the sake of radio ratings. And let's not forget that she was in the studio with the girl, while Sandilands was at the far end of a hook-up to New Zealand.

Of course, Sandilands could also have pulled the plug well before the segment started.

But this is a man who achieved fame by humiliating defenceless wannabees on Australian Idol, telling one poor teen she had "boring hair, boring dress, boring vibe, boring personality''. No emotional sense there.

But with a woman you expect more sensitivity, more empathy and more of looking after the interests of a child.

Sadly, Jackie O is no ordinary woman. Not only was she happy to let the segment run, she let it run even after the girl showed her distress and discomfort.

As the segment started, the girl was asked how she was feeling and replied: "I'm scared. It's not fair.''

Jackie O then chimes in: "It wouldn't be fair on any kid. I tell you, I sympathise with you.''

She did? Then why did Jackie O keep exploiting this young victim? Why was she happy to try to extract cheap laughs at this girl's expense?

Sandilands sooked last week that the backlash had been unfair on him. And, for once, I think he is half right. The backlash has been unfair on Kyle, but only because Jackie O should have copped it just as hard.

Sandilands should be sacked and lose his judging role on Australian Idol. But Jackie O should also be banished from the airwaves.

And I'd like her to find a new moniker. The real Jackie O had class. This Jackie O is just trashing the brand. She's nothing more than Tacky O.

I agree!!!
