Reward systems at school.

My son has just informed me that he doesn't need lunch today. I asked him if he'd been to my purse again:-5.........Apparently that's not what he was getting at.

The class has scored 25 stickers. that means the entire class has been good for the term .........They missed out by one sticker last term.

So the reward for scoring this many is a Friday of fish and chips and snacks and softdrinks.....and an inschool movie.............where was this reward system when I was at school?

I've discussed this with my boy and I think it's a great idea because the whole class keeps each other in check. Instead of laughing at he bad kids antics they all shame him in telling him to shut up not because they'll all get into trouble but because they all could miss out on the reward.

If they obtain 50 stickers in a term they are taken bowling or to the cinema.

btw all expenses payed.

That's nice. A primary school I know of has a system whereby pupils put marbles into a jar if they're praised for good behaviour, and remove them if they're naughty (the good/offending ones do it themselves). If a class gets a certain number of marbles in the jar, they have "golden time", a special playtime. It seems to work similarly well.

Hey Fuzzy,

I love the reward system and I pay for everything myself...and it's truly worth the trouble.

We opened up a classroom store, and I filled it with all sorts of goodies like pencils, erasers, notebooks, crayons, wee toys, candy, homework passes, et all.....

Everyday the kidlets can receive tickets for doing their homework, projects general behavior, and good deeds. They collect their tickets each day and save them. On Fridays, we open the store and they can buy items with their tickets.

I also have a marble jar. At the end of each day, if the majority of the class was behaved they receive a few marbles that I put in the jar. If they're behaved for special teachers they receive 10 marbles. When the jar is filled they receive a big treat from me...such as a mega big ice cream party with all the toppings, classroom movie in their jammies with popcorn and movie candy, or a pizza party with juice.

Unfortunately, it took them 4 months for the 1st treat...they learned their lesson, they received their 2nd treat 2 months later, and the 3rd treat 2 months after that. The last month of school our grade level gave them lots of other treats such as a picnic with all the 3rd grades and special movies on Fridays.

It's a lot of fun, and they work hard for the treats.

That's kind of what happens at my youngest boys school. The teachers assign a raffle ticket to good students and at the end of the week at assembly the tickets go into a draw...........This is the catch though (these teachers are sneaky) Only parents and visitors to the school can pull out the tickets, so the kids encourage the parents to come to end of week assembly so more tickets are pulled out.:wah::wah: the kids try it on too apparently 1 year old brothers and sisters are "visitors to the school":wah::wah::wah:

The raffle winners get to choose an item from the box much as you've describe Kathy.

Kathy do you subscribe to any scholastic clubs as a teacher or toy companies? One of the teachers at Keehans school does and he gets promotional stuff for free all the time, he puts these things in the raffle box:)

No, I don't get any freebees from anywhere...I should look into that.

I'm just awful with filling, looking for coupons, looking for discounts, etc. I should hire Ducky to do that for me...She's great at getting bargains.

I know I should do those things, but I'm mega impatient:(:o

Our primary school used to have a points system to reward the children at the end of each week with a 'golden time, the new head did away with it though. She's not at all popular :wah:

Oh boo on that head, Betty! Kids do like rewards, even in middle school. All teachers give coupons for students to enter in the end of the week, raffle, or they save them for a special event like an ice cream social or special movie.

That's really mean Betty....all kidlets like some sort of reward...it's just something to look forward to....

Breaks the boredom And lets face it , when they grow up they will get Christmas parties at work and pay rises or bonuses for doing a good job.

I'ts a motivation tool:)

When i was in school the teachers would use the star system.

Bronze for well tried

Silver for improvement

Gold for excellent.

My mum and dad have kept some of my books from primary school. I better go and check how many stars i had, i do know my sister had more golds than me.:-1

God i was so easily pleased back then, no fish and chips for rewards. Its so unfair.

I remember getting stars too, and the teacher used to keep them in a tobacco tin i think it was.

I think these reward systems are fantastic, a great way to get the kids motivated and to learn all about teamwork
