An 11-year-old California girl snatched from the street in front of her house in 1991 had two children with the man accused of taking her and lived in a secret backyard shed, authorities said Thursday.

The 18-year mystery of what happened to Jaycee Dugard ended this week when a sex offender admitted to corrections authorities that he abducted her.

Jaycee was abducted from South Lake Tahoe in June 1991, said Fred Kollar, undersheriff of El Dorado County. The case began to unfold when the sex offender, Phillip Garrido, 58, was stopped and questioned by campus police at the University of California at Berkeley.

With him were two children and a woman identified only as Alissa, who DNA tests later revealed was Dugard, now 29. The children were later determined to be Garrido's and Dugard's, Kollar said.

I'm betting this was a call her mother never expected to get.

The girl remembers everything. I wonder if she ever tried to contact her mother. I'm anxious to see how this case unfolds.

Incredible after 18 years. The were held captive in tents in the back yard. The kids have never been to school or out of the yard for that matter. Never been to a doctor or dentist. They had crude electricity, out house, and a make shift shower.

This is truly amazing.

It is just scary some of the kind of people that are out there. How could anybody do that kind of stuff to another person?? That poor family, all those years torn apart, now reunited, the lost years will never come back, the abuse she endured will never go away. These people who did this to her should be dragged into a public square and shot.

Garrido served 11 years of a 50-year sentence in Levenworth, Kansas
If he had served his full sentence, life could have been so different for this family. :-5

Had a officer who was sent out to the house in 2006 actually went into the house and the back yard as it was reported by neighbors that children were living in tents. The nightmare for Jaycee and her children could have ended 2 years ago.

There were so many things over the 18 years that should have lead Law enforcement to this mans house long ago. The car use to kidnap her sat in front of this house for the last 18 years.

Law enforcement really dropped the ball on this case. I also watched the suspect making a video cam recording to the police stating when the whole thing goes to court it will be a heartwarming experience...

for who? Him cuz the rest of thw world is grossed out.

I know Jaycee and her daughters will never be able to put this out of their minds. I just hope they can trust again in people that care about them from this point on.

She was taken at 11 years of age lived in a back yard and tormented by this sick perverted couple for 18 years. She and her daughters have no education, no experience with the outside world. They have a long road ahead of them and one I hope it will be a happy one.

I think they are still trying to figure out if he molested the children also...disgusting. All three of them will have to figure out how the world works...they've missed out for 18 yrs...I hope she & her children get the counseling they are going to need & loads of other help. How can you put that out of your mind?

Obserd, that this could happen in this day & age!!! Just goes to show that the current laws for governing sikco's, sorely need to be revisited!!! He should never have gotten out early, if even ever at all!! LEO'S should have unannounced thoroughly inspected his (and those like him) living quarters every year, if not even every 6 months!!! Shame on them all!!! :-5

I smell a major lawsuit coming out of this mess & she should be compensated as I don't think any jury will buy the law enforcement screw up.
