It's like living in someone else's demented nightmare. I see oscar you have conceded defeat and you are unable to come up with a chancellor who has been more destructive than gordon brown. He4 must be neck and neck with tony blair for the worst prime minister. poor maggie, it once seemed no one could tale that crown off her.

(Clodhopper raises eyebrows) Well, well, well.

The award was presented on behalf of the Appeal of Conscience Foundation - which campaigns for religious freedom and human rights (taken from the Express article oscar posted)

Perhaps Gordon isn't quite the moron we feared he was. I pay attention to this sort of endorsement because it is about as impartial as one can get.

well lat's take a look at who they think is a suitable person top present the award-henry kissinger he's hardly noted as being a campainger for human right is he.

I don't see why we need to stand by and watch a country go communist due to the irresponsibility of its people. The issues are much too important for the Chilean voters to be left to decide for themselves.

Henry A. Kissinger

Try asking someone from chile what they think of that one.

The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer.

Henry A. Kissinger

you think he was joking?

The Vietnam War required us to emphasize the national interest rather than abstract principles. What President Nixon and I tried to do was unnatural. And that is why we didn't make it.

Henry A. Kissinger

While we should never give up our principles, we must also realize that we cannot maintain our principles unless we survive.

Henry A. Kissinger

one of the 20th centuries proponents of Realpolitik and presided over some of the worst examples of democracy being destroyed to suit one nations interests is hardly someone most people would regard as suitable to be spokesman for any human rights organisation. Gordon brown is an arsehole-he sat there in parliament knowing tony blair was lying to get us to go to war and said nothing. he got himself made leader of the labour party and prime minister by scheming rather than anything resembling a democratic process, this is a sick joke that is offensive.

gmc: So in your view the Appeal of Conscience Foundation is a sham? The award worthless? Is the real reason for your disgust that the presentation of the award was by Kissinger, or because Brown was the recipient?

I think it is because you just absolutely can't bear to credit Brown with anything.

A slight miss spelling in the heading here, it was originally meant to read

GORDON BROWN NAMED ASS

WORLD STATESMEN OF THE YEAR AGREE

Well while I'm not gmc and therefore can't speak to his motivations, I am in the unfortunate position of personally knowing, and utterly disliking (which undoubtedly colours my views) Brown, it's hard for me to actually credit him with breathing on his own without instruction.

Chookie: Careful! You'll have oscar up the M1 to bask in reflected glory before you can say "non-endogenous growth factors"...:D

I think what got me going was that the apparent reason for disregarding the award is that Kissinger was the presenter at the ceremony who awarded it. I don't follow the logic. Should I disregard any award presented by someone I dislike regardless of what the award is, or what it is for? I'm not a big fan of Murdoch, so in the unlikely event he handed out a Nobel prize, should we conclude that the Nobels are worthless and irrelevant on the basis that I don't have much time for the wizened little bustard?

I don't pretend to understand international economics but if Brown is credited by people who presumably do understand that sort of thing with having done some good work there, then like him or not, he should get some credit for it.

I've never actually heard of them and quite frankly am not interested enough tp bother finding out. Kissinger was present and helped preside over an era of some of the most cynical Realpolitik of the 20th century the consequences of which we are living with today when democracies like chile were overthrown and replaces by a government that better suited the big companies wanting to exploit their resources. You can't pretend it didn't happen yet people seem unable to face up to the fact. He was only ever interested in human rights and religious freedom so long as it was in what he saw as america's interests.

What has happened to the worlds banks is not a big surprise anyone with half a brain could see what was going to happen-it was another south sea bubble. Gordon brown as chancellor has led the banks away with ripping off their customers, feted their leaders even as they were bankrupting their organisations. I could go on, he and tony blair have destroyed any credibility the UK might have had on the world stage, bankrupted us, destroyed the labour party and has come close to turning us in to a third rate banana republic off the coast of Europe.

Yes he might have helped save the world banks but he is one of the supreme idiots that allowed them to get to that point. You will notice countries with better regulation have not got themselves in to such a mess.

I have nothing but utter disdain for the man or anything he represents and the sooner he is out the better.

I hope he loses his seat at the next election. I can't believe anyone will vote for him.

Agreed that Kissinger was not a pleasant sort. But it seems to me you are in this case shooting someone because of the messenger.

As a matter of fact, the political leader in the UK who most resembles Brown in my opinion is mealymouth slimeball Salmond - the one who wants to break with England tie you in economically with Iceland and Ireland. Good luck to you!

:yh_rotfl You might be right. I haven't made up my mind about them. Certainly the snp councillors are proving to be just as corrupt and the way they rolled over for donald trump makes me suspicious that they can't be trusted. They are now talking about compulsory purchase to force those that won't sell to trump off the land.

Scottish council approves Donald Trump's bid for golf course land | World news | guardian.co.uk

Aberdeenshire council gives property tycoon permission to develop land he doesn't own for 'world's best golf course'

It's one I think will come back and bite the SNP. Up until salmond intervened I was coming round to supporting the snp. A lot of the support they were gaining is in reaction to new labour this kind of nonsense could see it leaking away.

You will note oscar exercises that delightful female prerogative when losing an argument to reason of changing the subject or just completely ignoring what is being said.

It's not trump that annoys me it's the SNP. Salmond has still kept his westminster seat, old two jobs is in town and pigging out.

That I doubt, the last scottish electon has helped people realise they can actually get away from the labour mafia, they might use the SNP to kick labour. A lot of people are I think genuinely angry at the way things have been going. There are a lot of scottish soldiers getting killed and attendance at the funerals of locals is getting bigger. People who are slow to anger are an awful lot harder to mollify once they get to that point. Labour have been taking their scots support for granted for too long. But I don't now.

Complete ******** of the year he's get my vote for that one. Funny how we've all forgotten tony, he's under a stone somewhere ready to leap out and become leader again. or maybe it will be mandy?

Just watching Question Time. We should set Heseltine on Trump, judging by his bitterness about US funding of the IRA and resulting views on any idea of a special relationship! :wah:

(Rather wryly) I think 911 rather brought them onside. Holding grudges isn't helpful.
