IT - what is it?

Post by Clodhopper »

And no, I don't mean Information Technology! :wah:

I'm talking about the IT that makes some people absolutely irresistible to the opposite sex. You know what I mean. Example:

A few years back I worked in a big openplan office. There was a young woman there who was pretty but not stunning and a bit overweight but not hugely so. But she absolutely had IT. All the men in the place agreed that she was just the most incredibly sexy person, but none of us could say exactly what IT was.

I've been reminded of her because one of my lodgers - male - also seems to have IT. Pretty girls just flock to him and he practically has to beat them off with a stick.

He's a pleasant lad, mad keen cricketer and not ugly (as far as I can tell in these matters), but you wouldn't as a man say there was anything noticeably special about him. He's not particularly bright, not particularly rich, and perhaps a touch immature for his age...

So what is IT? It isn't particularly physical, as far as I can see, and both men and women can have IT. IT might be the same for both sexes, or it might not.

Do you know what I mean? Has anyone any idea what IT might be? Perhaps more than one thing...?

Self confidence and liking yourself.

Of course, as you know... I have to fight them off with sticks. :yh_rotfl

Self confidence and liking yourself.

Except that Maddy ( the lass in the example) WASN'T very self confident...

Of course, as you know... I have to fight them off with sticks.

Yes, but not for the reason(s) I'm talking about. :sneaky:

There are plenty of people around with self-confidence who like themselves. This is something else, and quite rare.

Well, I have a young 8 yr. old boy in my class, and he is adored by everyone. He certainly has "IT." He's very sweet, intelligent, kind, nice looking, smart and very confident.

We also have a teacher in our school system who is extremely popular. He has a good sense of humor, friendly, intelligent, hard working, team player, nice looking and trust worthy.

I think what the boy and man have in common is that you know instinctively that they are both trust worthy, kind, considerate and decent people.

(Slightly doubtfully) I suppose that could be IT or part of IT. But would you say that they are (or are going to be) very sexy people?

Ok, men and women (may) have slightly different views on this, but certainly with the lass, she was incredibly sexy, but otherwise not noticeably nicer or nastier than many other women in the office. With the bloke, well, I haven't always entirely approved of the way he has treated some of these women, but I suppose if you are beating them off with a stick you can get a bit casual about things.

Hope this isn't too difficult or embarrassing an issue to discuss...

Sorry - neither of them make me burn with carnal desires. :wah:

I'm not sure that IT really shows in photos anyway...

I've noticed it in a few people of both sexes, Clodhopper. I reckon it's chemical signals. Hormones. Pheromones. And I mean this seriously. Most of us have a certain amount of these, of course, and more at certain times, and in certain situations. Some people though seem to have a very high level of sex attraction chemicals, and they don't seem to switch them off. It's like being in permanent hunt mode. In women, I call it the honeypot syndrome. And it doesn't somehow seem to have anything to do with great beauty or even youthfulness and not niceness either. In a man too it seem to go beyond youth and good looks and character. All these things are attractive - but IT hits you on a visceral level.

Honeypot women usually turn other women right off - again I suspect this is just chemical signals, of a similar kind to a woman often knowing when another woman is just pregnant, or menstruating.

Either you've got

Or you have not

That improper fraction

Of vague attraction

That gets the action somehow...

I must be getting forgetful in my old age - pheromones. Of course!

Thanks Aussiepam. It is quite striking when you meet it and it definitely works at a level below conscious perception - in the example of the lass I quoted, none of the men said anything about how she smelt particularly good, but we all felt the attraction.

The little ditty made me giggle, too. :wah:

Charisma?

To me charisma is slightly different. I am immune to my lodger's pheromones, but charisma grabs the attention regardless of whether you are male or female. Someone with both would be terrifyingly powerful.
