There is a club of obsessive Barbel hunters in Pete's fishing club. After returning from the river, they rush home to post tales of their day and upload pics of their catch on their own forum. Nearly all of them will not report or post pics of any Barbel under 8lb because a catch under this size is just plain embarressing to any seasoned Angler.
This is what he posted an hour ago:
Hi all
Just thought I would share with you, the story of my catch on Monday..................
The mist was on the ground and two deer grazed peacefully in the field nearby as i lowered my bait gently into position in my chosen swim. I had already spotted several barbel, feeding a short way downstream and the plan was to draw them into my swim by prebaiting......
The air was heavy with excited anticipation as i tightened the line to my rod tip and set the clutch in expectation of the battle soon to follow. My gaze was transfixed by the motionless rod tip, when suddenly, the line trembled.....I held my breath, my hand hovering over the rod butt, when the tip suddenly ripped round in that unmistakeable and violent take of a barbel........I lifted into the fish and my rod arched over as it made a bid for freedom in some tree roots....but it was no match for my 12ft carbon taming stick, and i turned it just in time. Several more spirited efforts by the barbel were to no avail and, with heart pumping and a big smile on my face, i eased her over the net rim and she was MINE After resting this perfect specimen, she lay on my unhooking mat with fins defiantly bristling and her body glistening in the morning sun...........What a start to the day.

On Golden Pond (1981) Thanks kathy... Did you see my post on the thread about Pete thanking you for the get well card? He was so thrilled to recieve it and it was so kind of you. As usual, you have a heart of gold. :-4
He has watched the film and loved it. He hasn't much strength at the moment and truth is he actually dreads catching the big guy incase he can't land him. Lucky that Barbel was such a tiddler that he caught :wah:
