I don't believe people are stupid. They sometimes just do "stupid" things. That's part of being a human being. We make mistakes or do "stupid" actions. Stupid actions can be fixed a number of ways. Apologizing. Learning from the mistake and trying not to repeat it. Retaking the action the proper or "smart" way.

So, Lon, you can fix stupid.

You guys really don't want to be here......come to one of my threads.

I promise...........NO ONE who replies is stupid there.

I do know actually.

I know that every time you get bored you play silly, immature and childish games here and then you take the mickey out of people who believe you.

You think it's funny, but I think it's mean.

And this thread is doing it again.

Which proves what I said:

1. You're bored and

2. You might have a lot of money, as you continually tell us, but it's not bringing you happiness because you're bored!

As this thread proves!

OK--you are partly right, I am bored. The weather sucks today and my golf game was called off. As for being mean, not me, I am a warm & fuzzy, compassionate, well liked, humble human being.

Rich??? Have a lot of money. Where did I ever say that? Comfortable I am, and enjoy the good life, but rich? Lot of money? What's a lot of money?

Well ---- in between posts today, I picked up a friend that was coming into the airport from Chicago and took him home. Then I went to the market to do some grocery shopping, came home and put the groceries away. Then I went to Sears and bought a new toilet seat and installed it. Then at noon I went to play water volleyball for two hours. Then I came home and took a 45 minute nap, got up and played my bongos to some Latin music for an hour. It's now 4:30 PM and I am watching the early news and thinking about what to cook for dinner. I think I will have spaghetti and a salad. I have some sauce left over that I made last week. Tonight I will probably watch a movie and finish the new book I started.

So, what did you do today?

I hope when I retire, I can enjoy my time like you do, Lon. I think it is great you get to play some sports with friends, and have loads of fun.

What book are you reading?

The Murder of King Tut----by James Patterson

If I could live my life over, I would have liked to teach history on the uni level. Problem is though, there is so much history. You could specialize in the U.S. Civil War ---------read thousands of books, and still not scratch the surface.

Teaching at Uni level is not about reading thousands of books, it's about understanding the situation and all the factors which led up to the commencement of the Civil War. It's understanding what happened on both sides, and why those things happened and all the interactions that occurred leading up to those events. Each defining moment in history did not occur because 2 opposing sides came together, it's because many occurrences built up into a single cataclysmic moment which then altered history.

Also, you need to do lots of research, not just read books. This is because reports of events are usually written by whichever side won that war or battle, so the events written about are biased in that sides favour. Unless you were there you will never truly know what happened, so you will need to research any writings from that time, ensuring you read articles written by different sides (there may be more than two) and drawing facts together. You are not allowed to make any assumptions, you may only work from empirical data (data you have gathered yourself). Authors make assumptions (not always correct ones) in order to make a story more interesting.

I think you should take some Uni courses and study the Civil War if that is your interest. I studied history at Uni, including the Russian and French Revolutions and also the commencement of World War II. These latter classes were held on Saturdays and interestingly we had some WWII vets who were interested in studying the period and who came along and joined our classes. They didn't want to study for a degree, just to find out more indepth information about the war and what led up to its commencement. These vets also told us their own stories of the war and what it was like for them, it was living history and made for some truly fascinating insights. Everyone benefited from their addition to the class.

If that is your interest you should study the period more, I'm sure it would be fascinating.

This is for you.

My days are mostly routine as i have 3 dogs, i'm up at six to pick up poop and jet spray / disinfect the yard, this takes around an hour. I take the dogs out for a two hour hike then feed them on return, settle them down with bones and go take a shower and start my day at work (i work from home). Grab a spot of lunch around 1, bit more work till 3pm, out with the dogs again back around 5 and feed them again, cook our evening meal, reply to emails, surf and make phone calls, eat meal. I had a set of nails to do for a customer at 8pm, watched a movie with my husband. Pretty normal day although i don't work every night.

My degree is in Finance, but the U.S. Civil War is a hobby and I have read not only hundreds of books on the subject, but done considerable research as well. Obviously, if one were to teach history on the uni level, research is a necessity. Thank you for your input but don't be so quick at assumptions.

Actually, I thought you were interested in further study and I was trying to be encouraging. Reading other peoples books is reading their opinions, not forming opinions of your own. I was merely trying to be helpful. I won't bother in future, it's not worth my time and effort.

Oh, I saw that book at the airport bookstore and almost got it. Let me know how you like it, it should be interesting from whom the author is. Always enjoyed Egyptian history, took Middle Egyptian-and yes, you can select a topic and never know enough about it. I feel that way all the time, and could never read all the Native American books I should, much less my minor fields of interest. (and teaching history on the uni level is fun, with technology and powerpoints to bring in the graphics)
