yeah it has happened to me, the doctors told me and my family that my nanna had 2 years to live. I got my hopes up but sadly 3 days later she passed away, never forgave the doctor for filling us with hope.

I can relate to Angel in that my grandma was healthy and active one week, passed away the next, and I was always sorry that I didn't spend more time with her in the end.
Working in EMS, there were always things happening that made you feel stupid, just was beyond your control and you shrug it off. I do think when I finished paramedic school, I though I would be put in more situations where I actually saved lives, and thats disillusional. It does happen, but its a small percentage of the call load.
Everyone I've met online was what they described themselves as. But, I havn't met but a hand full of people. I've heard horror stories about that sort of thing though.

I knew a guy in real life that was the epitome of illusion. Freakin' snake. He filled my head with so much crap, blew sunshine up my behind for months. And I bought it all. When I finally found out the truth about him, I was floored. Just a lying, conniving, egomaniacal, sack of ****. I felt marginally better when my family told me they believed his BS too. Talk about getting snowed. If I have to find the silver lining, I'd say that it has never happened again, and was a valuable lesson. One I learned well.

I became disillusioned with the Democratic Party in the mid-80's, with myself after having a drinking problem in the early 90's, with my job right now and with God as a child. LOTS to be disillusioned about. It doesn't help if you have a vivid imagination either! Just more to be disillusioned about! Sigh... :-1
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group that believes you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas millionaires, or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid." not sure how youd adapt to being a copper here, from what ive read of your posts you do some pretty serious stuff
here the police are so tied, if they even look at you wrong theyll have a complaint against them!! tbh i really dont think the police on our streets are any use at all really, way too much legislation etc it stops them being able to do their job so effectively...
the english charm got you huh!!

The justice system is........well we don't have one. Beat up an old lady for drug money you get a slapped wrist - a woman defends her home from yobs by shooting an air rifle in the air and get 12 months in jail. That's one example of many.
If you've worked all your life and have paid into the system you get nothing back. Sit on your arse and don't work you can get allsorts in benefits. People who saw WifeSwap will know the woman who claimed £30,000 a year because she couldn't be arsed to work and is now on 'Celebrity Fit Club'. My sister in law has arthiritus right through her body and has just discovered she has a tumor in her stomach. She's on long term sick. What can she claim? Naf all because she doesn't 'qualify'. Bet the Asylum seeker down the road can.
You're not allowed to be proud of your country because somehow you get called racist. I am not a racist and have not been brought up to be one. Some councils won't allow Union Jack flags be flown because other nationalities find it offensive. Hence the reason they want to ban the phrase 'White Christmas' and the song 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'.
They're trying to ban films like Bambi (because kids get distressed) and songs like Humpty Dumpty (because kids think they can fall off a wall and not get hurt).
My Auntie broke her leg last year falling off a chair. She is now facing the prospect of losing her leg because since being admitted into hospital she's contracted Ecoli and MRSA which is in her bones and rife through her body. Why? Because many hospitals are a disgrace and basic cleanliness is not adhered to. I've seen doctors and nurses not use the alcohol spray they're supposed to and have the cheek to blame the cleaners.
I'm not saying all country's are perfect and the grass may not be greener, but more and more people are moving abroad and not looking back. Its a shame because this country could be great but we're not allowed to be. In the next couple of years we're thinking of emigrating.
But for you LC I hope England is everything you dreamed of and I hope you have a happy life here.

have to agree with everything you said!
i still kinda like good old stuffy england though!!
could do with losing some of this political correctness rubbish though
personally i think england is going to see a huge backlash against the way the children are growing up today, i think a lot of places go through a faze where everyones becomes somewhat crazy but then people realise whats happening and the generation having children teaches them how to behave properly and then hopefully the teenage mum thing (they are kids having kids) will ease of too.... theres no way it will carry on as it is or else we wont have a country.... over the next 10 yrs i reckon itll all change again, i mean it was certainly not like this when i was growing up

Without turning this thread into a debate on England, I hope things do change for the sake of our future generations. As much as I love my country, I despair at it :-1

Yeah that is why you did not bother with the UK election thread I put up
Get out there and do something about and stop bleating. My theory on why this country is getting worse is because evryone expects it handed to them on a plate, why. You have no right to anything except liberty, that you have and you can democratically change the government any time you can be bothered to vote.
It is symptomatic of what is happening in the Uk , everyone thinks it's going to hell and is waiting for someone ELSE to do something about it.
This is a great country, The NHS may not be all it's supposed to be but it is still free at the point of delivery, you are free to go where you want when you want, you can do any job you want and are qualified for, if you do not have a job the government will help you train to find one, jobs outnumber those available to fill them, we do not have earthquakes, hurricaines or tornados.
You are free to practice any religion you like within the law, it is still a safe country to be in, despite the tabloid claims, crimes against children for example are less than they were in the 1950's.
Asylum seekers that have their asylum denied are generally those that destroyed their papers before entering the country, this cannot be returned because the Immigration service does not even know who they are or where they came from, send them back yes! but where to?
I love this country but it was not made what it was by navel gazing, that is how it got like it is now.

Somewhat disillusioned about my job.
BTW...I love my job! When I started, wanted to "fix" every kid. Some kids are not going to be "fixed". I have learned to savor the small break throughs and jump up and down over the big break throughs.
That has made all the difference.

I vote because I believe that if you don't then you shouldn't whinge. This is a great country and could be better but the fact remains its going downhill. I work hard like many people and have since I was sixteen. I pay into the country and will continue to do so. What I get in return is a life threatening disease should I go into hospital, some scrounger probably on more benefits than I earn in wages, put in jail if I defend my home, overcrowded classrooms and told I'm not allowed to go in a cafe and ask for 'black coffee'.

lady cop wrote: have you ever been disillusioned or disappointed? sorry for what you did? feeling stupid? i went through the police academy thinking i would save the world. nope, i can't. i have TRIED!! .....or have you ever met someone online and they were not what they said they were? any disillusionment?
Whoa there, LC. Get that chin up. You are the backbone of our society, without you...we don't have one. Every day in a million different ways you affect the lives of thousands of people.
let's say you arrest just one bad guy. During the time he is in jail, he doesn't go out and kill an innocent woman like he would have if you hadn't changed the course of events.
That woman has a baby that would never have been born if not for you (although you don't know this, since you think all you did was lock up a petty criminal for a week).
The baby goes on to become a great leader of humanity. He heals nations, discovers cures for diseases, maybe even discovers a clean energy source changing the future of humanity a for all time.
And the whole process began with you. You are the link that held the chain together.
Each life is like a thread in a great, complex tapestry. You say that you don't think you are making enough difference, but how can you know, if you can't see the whole beautiful intiricate picture from where you are?
When I first became a teacher I was just like you. I wanted to save the world too. I guaranteed that any student that attended my class would go away better and have a great life, using the skills I taught them.
i learned a hard lesson that first year. You can't win them all. but you're not supposed to. You just do the best you can and trust the plan.
Someday, I believe, in Heaven....the Mighty Creator will show you all the ripples in the pond of life you made, and how those ripples crossed and recrossed each other in awe-inspiring ways, changing thousands of other lives for the better. You'll feel a lot better then...trust me.
In the meantime, you and I do what we do best....live each day one at a time and do our absolute best.

Because the guy who runs it is a complete t****r
The justice system is........well we don't have one. Beat up an old lady for drug money you get a slapped wrist - a woman defends her home from yobs by shooting an air rifle in the air and get 12 months in jail. That's one example of many.
She actually got 6 months, she wasn't protecting her home, she attacked a group of teenagers in a field opposite her home, claiming that one of them had spilled water on her son's car.
A police spokesman said ''While we support homeowners protecting themselves, Mrs Walker overstepped the line and attacked a group in an unprovoked, disproportionate manner.
Can you explain why you're sister in law doe's not qualify for benefits, or is this something you've made up to support your arguement.
Of course your allowed to be proud of your country, I am and have never been called racist. To my knowledge the flying Union Flag has never been disallowed, perhaps you're talking about th Cross of St George which has been disallowed in times of racial tension as has the pakistani flag. The problem with the CSG is that it has been hijacked by far right racist groups and is used to inflame racial tension.
The song ''Baa Baa Black Sheep'' and the phrase ''White Christmas'' has not and will not be banned, CRE have said that it is rediculous to think that black people would be offended by either.
They're trying to ban films like Bambi (because kids get distressed) and songs like Humpty Dumpty (because kids think they can fall off a wall and not get hurt).
Don't believe all you read in the tabloids.
MRSA is a problem in some hospitals but a lot of money is being spent tackling this problem. If you've seen doctors and nurses not adhering to correct proceedures why have you not confronted them about it or is it that you are one of life's whingers and you're just typing what ever comes into your head.

Maybe local councils are different, but where I live this was the case. The St George's flag was flown when the football was on but the Union Jack was not allowed.
The song ''Baa Baa Black Sheep'' and the phrase ''White Christmas'' has not and will not be banned, CRE have said that it is rediculous to think that black people would be offended by either.

Its a problem in MOST hospitals and yes I did tackle the nurses. I never said in my last post that I didn't so maybe stop jumping to conclusions?
I am not one of life's whingers. I have a right to say what I think and maybe you don't like it but quite frankly I'm not really that arsed.

I hate to do this, but your wrong, Tony Martin shot a burgler in the back when he was fleeing his premises. This can hardly be described as protecting one's property, if you were to argue that it was justified as revenge then I might have sympathy with your argument, however this discussion is about the right to protect one's proprty.
because you seemed to disagree with the other things she said, and want proof and evidence to back it all up
Because I disagree with someone on one subject, it does'nt follow that I would disagree with everything they say.

The fat controller is the American influence, when it was released in the states they had to change the name same with the teletubbies they had to have a black one to be PC as if it matters to little kids. The actor playing the purple one got fired because the americans thought the character was too gay as it carried a handbag-you're talking about a purple childrens character for goodness sake.
Thomas the Tank Engine is no longer available for children's charities unless they pay the company that owns the rights royalties for using the name.
I got thoroughly disillusioned in the seventies being unemployed for two years. I still have all the rejections letters to remind myself, most employers didn't even bother replying. I remember going along to a tory meeting to hear the local candidate and him holding up the local paper saying how can people be unemployed look at all the jobs in this and all his supporters going hear hear. Summer season the jobs were all fruit picking and potato harvesting, hardly careers seasonal only and there were waiting list for them, closest I have ever come to throwing a chair at a political meeting I had to walk out i was so angry. Had no time for them ever since.
How about the iraq vote, foundation hospitals when scottish MP's voted in favour for something they oppose in Scotland. Watching all these MP's who are supposed to act as a check on government going along with things they disagree with just to keep their jobs.
Actually I'm not disillusioned I'm just pissed off.
Must admit i did think about emigrating but the days when you could emigrate with no money and no job experience are long gone, catch 22, no job no money, no job no chance to acquire any proveable skills.

Ever been arrested? It's the courts that decide the sentence not the police, it's not them that give light sentences or want to see them either. If you think the police muck about when dealing with a prisoner I suggest you don't try the experience.

You can read can't you? Who do you think paid for your education unless you went to private school you have benefited from the system you are now paying in to. Ever had any childhood illnesses? who do youi think paud for our treatment? Come the day when you are old and decrepit and you need long term care then no doubt you will enjoy being a drain on the system.

Why can't she claim?-no forget that it's private. But who is paying for her treatment? If she's going privately it's her choice and no doubt when the money runs out she will expect free treatment on the NHS.
Must admit i did think about emigrating but the days when you could emigrate with no money and no job experience are long gone, catch 22, no job no money, no job no chance to acquire any proveable skills.

youve made the discussion about that...... however, the whatsits shoudlnt have been on his property in the first place and regardless of whether they were coming or going tony had the right to do whatever he wanted, wouldnt you? so lets make it about the right to protect ones property though - even if he had done it while they were in his house hed probably have still ended up in jail while they walked the streets - not fair. on GMTV this morning there was a bit about some kids who stole £200 worth of DVD's and got off scott free, there was another shop who had had 900 thefts in 2 yrs and the police said they couldnt deal with it but gave the shopkeepers protective clothing!!!
You're link identifies him as: Toppem Hatt.... The Fat Controller.
they put the fat controller so people knew who he was because noone in england over the age of 20 would have a clue who Toppem Hatt was!!! political correctness gone mad!! more a worldwide thing though than just England

have you ever been disillusioned?
I think the older you get, the more disillusioned you get. The more you watch the news, and see how things really are or how they have changed over the years, you get somewhat pessimistic.
But
....deep down inside me there is still that little child that believes in goodness, and honesty, and kindness, and joy, and hope.
But

Life is a Highway. Let's share the Commute.

no i havent, never been in any situation like that. i dont mean its the police themselves not personally, i mean theres so much red tape that they cant do their job properly, the police arent what they should be, they should be able to kick some people arses from here to pluto but theyd get sued if they did. have you ever watched on Bravo some of the programmes about the violence on the streets or the traffic cops? people get away with blue murder and the police dont have half the power they shuould, but neither do the courts

id be happy to pay for private care if i didnt have to carry on putting some of my salary into the NHS every month when i wasnt going to use it.......
no country can be perfect for every person and i love England but i think the amount of paper pushing, wasted time, political correctness and the resources put into completely the wrong thing takes away from what used to be a world leading country......

youve made the discussion about that......
Mmm
however, the whatsits shoudlnt have been on his property in the first place
Agreed.
and regardless of whether they were coming or going tony had the right to do whatever he wanted,
No, thats the point, he did not have the right to do what ever he wanted.
wouldnt you?
I may of be tempted but the answer is no.
so lets make it about the right to protect ones property though - even if he had done it while they were in his house hed probably have still ended up in jail while they walked the streets - not fair.
Yes he probably would of gone to jail, as you only have the right to kill if you are in fear for you're own life, that wasn't the case here. Tony Martin had, had his gun license revoked a couple of years before this incident, for taking pot shots at a car near his house, the man was unstable and should not of had a pump action shot gun. On release from prison Tony Martin himself said, the boy didn't deserve to die.

I didn't see the programme, besides i'm not trying to defend the whole judicial system.

ok fair enough
but one thing - regardless of tony martin or the woman that smithy87 mentioned....
you agree that the little whatsits shouldnt have been in their house or damaging their property...... yet they have a right not to expect us to defend our property and home...
say someone broke into the house of a man and wife but they let the burglar move around because they didnt think their lives were in danger...... then he came into their bedroom shot the husband and raped the wife....
you just dont know whether someones going to be dangerous and to what extent..... they shouldnt be on your property and maybe killing them is a little extreme but i dont think a damn good hiding would be out of place or a shot in the knee!! but if we did that before this 'imaginary scenario' took place the courts would frown on us and say we werent acting in self-defence and yet the people who broke into your home would probably be freed and sent for counselling after their trauma
i know eveyone says its easy to just sit and whinge and yes it is, i dont make a habit of it, and if i thought i could make a difference i would but to be quite honest theres so much red tape everywhere i dont think i could do diddly squat and as proven by these posts theres always disagreement about what everyone wants anyway!!
