Are you frugal?

Post by koan »

It's almost a point of pride for me how cheaply I live. :wah:

The more money you make the more you can end up having to work to pay for your stuff. I decided a while ago that living the life I can afford is far more rewarding.

I did the same thing about 19 years ago after a long disability. When I went back to work I had learned my lesson of living beyond my means. I love the freedom it gives me now no debt no worries. :-6

Frugal here. It isn't how much you make that matters, its how much you spend.

One of my frugal habits is to not use dryer sheets in the laundry. One really nice thing about this is that I can treat myself to a month of luxury just by buying a box of dryer sheets. :wah:

I'm only frugal the last week every month. On the 3rd, I get paid again.

That's an intresting question! When I was younger (and foolish) I lived way beyond my means! So as to keep up with the Joneses (American term ("for show") to appear rich) Anyway, having said that, now that I can afford most everything I desire, I don't spend money foolishly, even though I can afford to! I like to get my money's worth for what I buy.

OK, I may have to take that last statement back. We're going on a Cruise the end of January, & I insisted on us having a suite with a balcony! A stateroom with a window, could have surficed just as well, but I splurged!!! Go figure!

I think it's a question of a common sense middle ground. I'm not stupid enough to fritter away money at the drop of a hat and NEVER use my credit card unless I know can pay it off within the month (and still rarely do), but you only go around once so I'm not going to go "ultra scrooge" and deny myself some of the finer things in life either. All depends on the specifics really.

The French bit of me is very frugal and hunts for bargains. The Aussie side is happy to spread what I have around in a relaxed way. So yes and no. I guess I like value for money, don't spend more than I can afford and do my best to avoid waste. I use up old bread, consume leftovers and hang my washing out to dry naturally. But I splurge on shoes, and when I travel I don't always camp in the woods or stay in a farmhouse. :sneaky:

I am not sure, I think that I am not so much frugal, but selective on what I spend my money on.

I do not spend carelessly, but when I do decide to spend it on something, although I still look for the best price, I would not sacrifice quality for cost.
