Thanks but this looks really "busy".......I heard there are some shareware programs you can use to just partition the drive? Oh also I might not have been clear, I want to just format one "chunk" of my HD, not the whole thing (although I've considered it, I hate Vista).

Partition magic is one software that was popular. Having not really used windows for about 5 years now, I'm not sure if its still high on the list or not.

If you don't like VISTA dump it format the entire hard drive and be done with it you will be happier in the long run. Just save all your present drivers so you can reload them when your done.

If your system can upgrade to Window 7 that is what I would recommend. Try the windows 7 advisor to see if you can upgrade or need to do a clean install. The best way I can describe windows 7 is if you liked XP you will love Windows 7 very intuitive software.

That's why I prefer not to do it, ie losing some drivers and having problems - this is my only system and I can't afford to have it not working for all but the smallest degree of time. Maybe if I buy a cheap laptop at some point.....

Anyway thx!

"Windows Vista's Disk Management console tool will allow you to repartition your existing hard disk any way you want. In other words, it will now allow you to shrink, extend, create, and format partitions without putting your data in jeopardy."

Repartition your hard disk on-the-fly with Windows Vista discusses how to do it in detail.
