The FG Travelling T Shirt - Aussie Caper

Post by AussiePam »

Preamble

Beloved FG member, Kathy Ellen - kind and sweet as always - and in this case probably totally misguidedly :sneaky: packed up a green bundle of mischief and sent it on a journey.

This journey was of course intended to be illuminating and even inspiring. The tee shirt - pristine and innocent - shuffled out of it's pink postbag and blinked in amazement. Where had the snow gone???? Why was everyone in shorts? What was that yellow thing in the sky? Why did everyone talk so funny?

Kathy, his mother said

"Say hello to our 5th Travelling T-shirt. His name is Forum Garden, FG for short. "

And this was very fine.

BUT Forum Garden, alias FG was now FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And already that yellow stuff in the sky was making him think deeply...

What's in a name, he quoth, in broad Strine

I mean fair dinkum, a bunch of wattle by any other name would still make you bloody sneeze.

Possibilities...

Traveling Tee shirt.. (first. I'm an Aussie now and bolshie, so let's get the spelling right.. Here it's traveLLing... two l's - get it?! ) ... so that's TT. Titty... OOOH a rude word. A cuss word.. But I'm Down Under, and everyone swears here. GOODY. But I'm a bloke tee shirt, aren't I??? Moobs R not us!!! And if I fell in the sea and got wet... well I might not want to win a wet tee shirt comp. Nar.. TT is OUT

FG is so 'garden' - I mean gnomes and Nomad and all that kinda thing. I'm independent. But it does have a good ring.

What about EFFIGY? Effie Gee

Merriam Webster dictionar

Main Entry: ef·fi·gy

Pronunciation: ˈe-fə-jē

Function: noun

Inflected Form(s): plural ef·fi·gies

Etymology: Middle French effigie, from Latin effigies, from effingere to form, from ex- + fingere to shape — more at dough

Date: 1539

: an image or representation especially of a person; especially : a crude figure representing a hated person

— in effigy : publicly in the form of an effigy

----

But I always wanted to be loved???????

I, Effigy, arrived in Sydney, Australia on New Year's Eve 2009 at roughly the same time as the luxury liner "The World" sailed back into the Harbour with Matt Damon on board..

A little mentally creased after my journey, I was happy to be blow away the cobwebs, take in a little sea air and a few Vitamin D rays..

I found the mask hanging from a music stand and thought it would make me look just a little unscrutable. An American loose in the ex British colonies might wish to appear a little nonchalant... otherwise a convict might get me, and I hear there are bitey things everywhere Down Under.

And they really do speak very funny.. struth...

That sand does look like snow, Carla - actually it is snow. That's where I, Effigy, began... and may I say you're a very grouse looking shiela... hic... ooops.. Yes, there's all this great wine lying around.. Jacob's creek red. Nice drop of plonk. Can I line you up a glass or would you prefer a cold tinnie?

Funny house this one. Full of weird people coming and going all the time, little and big... It's a mess of cameras and musical instruments and bedding all over the floor and tinsel and dropped pine needles...

Anyway the Alpha goddes type Shiela kind of took to me, though she forgot me a bit when the party hotted up last night, but by then I'd found the champers... :sneaky:

There were fireworks.. in fact there was so much noise I got no bleeding sleeep at all and the bats pooped on all the cars probably outta fear induced incontinence (see what big words the Goddess is teaching me.. she'll get hers later..)

Effigy:

No rest for the wicked..

Along For the Ride wants to see me on the Goddess... What kind of a porn site is this? Back off. I've got a headache. Allright it's New Year's Day and so has everybody. Why the Council needed to clean up the streets at dawn beats me. I mean aren't Aussies meant to be laid back??? CHILL, PEOPLE.

-------------

Goddess:

I took the bad tempered, grump to the beach. Yup, and Effigy came too :sneaky:

And AFTR nearly got her wish. I was wearing a sunproof top to match me bathers while taking the waves as Aussies do on NY Day, and fighting small person for use of his Chrissie boogie board... when it occurred to me I had not brought another top. So it was wear Effigy (the FG gods do provide) or enter that wet tee shirt contest myself.

I chose the wet tee shirt contest. Won. Made a speech about harsher punishment for parole officers and world peace. And Effigy - all snarky - finally agreed to pose, still pristinely unworn. (I mean we only met yesterday!!!)

Goddess:

I was gonna bribe the commercial abos at Circular Quay to get in on the act, Heather... can I do that as well?? It's bad taste of course, but the tourists love it. Who knows, Effigy might get to have a go at a didgeridoo or toss a boomerang. Warpainting him for a corroborree is out, I know.

I Effigy, had my first visit to an Aussie Beach. It was Balmoral Beach, not a surf beach like Bondi or Manly but a local swimming spot where the coffee was incredible... ahhhhh Aussie coffee!!! - and kids roamed everywhere. Not always treating me that well, but heck.. I may not actually get to Spain in my travels, so standing is for a matador's cape with a cheeky Small Person wasn't too bad really. Then I soaked up some rays and tried to discourage seagulls from overflying me too directly.... Still pristine, a little sandly maybe, but relaxed....

Goddess will upload the pics later.

Goddess:

Ducky - I'm really sorry about that. I'm going to try and ensure that this bolshie Effigy tee shirt does not go walkabout except, in the fullness of time, to MrsK who's promised to let him loose in the Outback.

Hope you get Collingdale back !!!!!

------------------------------

Effigy:

Depends how nice these true blue Aussies are to me, know wha' I mean?! So far, so good. I got Scottish shortbread, a French baguette, strawberries, Aussie champers, English Stilton cheese, Tasmanian smoked salmon and Greek olives last night - no reason to bugger off yet. In fact, I can do all the travel I bloody well want to right here. Did the Spanish bullfight thing today. I heard talk of an I-tie cafe tomorrow, and French film to follow... Les Beaux Gosses. I am Green therefore Irish by nature and by birth. I have it all.. Perfect!!

Oim a wanderin tee shirt

Travel more than my share

And I'm courting the shielas from Sydney to Clare

I am always light hearted and haven't a care

And I sing with the kookaburras in the morning

Balmoral Beach

Maybe Goddess has exceeded her upload allowance for today... The pics of me being waved in front of a great Australian load of bull and then relaxing in the sun, safely out of reach of brownsnakes, sharks, seagulls, crocodiles, funnel web spiders, redback or rampant children with possibly dripping ice creams and friendly dispositions.

Effigy

Good morning, ya gorgeous bunch of sexy FG Shielas!! I nudged the self styled Goddess here to try again to upload my beach pics, but she had bugger all success. What's the deal here? If any of you are mods, can you explain? The photos are apparently not large.

Anyway - I may go on a few more adventures today. It's Saturday, and Goddess is on the loose, so to speak. (She wanted me for some reason to rephrase that in case people thought she was trying to corrupt me). Dunno where we're going yet, but there's not a lot of point in taking more amazingly fantastic and exotic photos if they can't be posted... :sneaky:

Now though - I get to drink some of the rich oily black stuff with cahones that Aussies call coffee.... :D

Definitely, Chonsi. Balmoral is an inner city, non surf beach where mainly locals go. The ferry to Manly passes it... I'm going to visit my sister at Manly on Thursday and if the surf's up... who knows..... ???? Effigy might get to see what a real surf board is, and even meet a few big tanned hunky Aussie lifeguards.... :sneaky:

Thanks, Odie. It was a useful exercise too. I needed an umbrella to go out, found three. The black one works well, the yellow one works a bit, and the tartan one sort of exploded in my hand, so is now heading for the trash.

I'm enjoying having the tee shirt. Going out with it is a bit like taking a dog for a walk, but you don't stop at every tree, necessarily.

This was all very tiring and the waterlily pond looked inviting...

There is sweet music here that softer falls

Than petals from blown roses on the grass,

Or night-dews on still waters between walls

Of shadowy granite, in a gleaming pass;

Music that gentlier on the spirit lies,

Than tired eyelids upon tired eyes;

Music that brings sweet sleep down from the blissful skies.

Here are cool mosses deep,

And through the moss the ivies creep,

And in the stream the long-leaved flowers weep,

And from the craggy ledge the poppy hangs in sleep.

Tennyson

Ohhhhhhhhhh Pam:-4

Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking all these absolutely wonderful pictures of Effigy in Oz:-6 I love, love, love all your pictures especially the one of Dieter and the Aborigines playing their musical instruments.

Dieter looks adorable....so handsome and fit as a fiddle:-4 Please give him my best.

Oh, I'm so happy that Effigy had a chance to get out of this horrible weather at the beach in Noo Joisey. He certainly is a lucky lad to be enjoying the beautiful fireworks on New Year's Eve and frolicking along the beach areas. :wah: Love the pictures of him in the garden with the lovely statues.

OMG...the bats in the tree are scary. Do they turn into vampires at night:p? AND the wonderful tree....Is it a fig tree?

You have a gorgeous country Pam.

What a wonderful selection of photos, Pam. This is what the FG T-shirt travelling is all about. Thank you so much for sharing the photos with us all, what a lucky fella 'Effigy' is :wah: Many many thanks to Kathy for dipping in her pocket yet again, and being instrumental in what, I hope, will be a most memorable and successful 'world tour' :-6 :D ;)

Thanks Gill.....I really know that this t-shirt will make it around the world due to members like Pam and Mrs. K. It won't be thrown in a closet somewhere like the other 3 shirts.

Pam's pictures are spectacular:-4

Effigy, the FG Travelling Tee Shirt was a bit concerned that when he travels back to America, he might get scanned, and who knows who might see his post-festive-season merkinlessness.. He sighed...

So the Goddess invited him to join her early aquarobics class at the North Sydney Olympic Pool - guaranteed to give him a six pack, put hair on his chest, a spring in his accoutrements, a glint in his eye and a smile on his face.

Goddess: Sheesh!! Next you'll be wanting to go to an Aussie pub? Sigh... Anyway, you did get to the new hand made chockie shop.

Kathy - Effigy insisted, and it was bloody hard to get him out again. I think he may be addicted to chocolate.... sorry.
