I'm curious about FG members internet connection and what the cost is where you live. As for me, I could never go back to dial up (DSL). I use a Broadband service through the company that also offers Cable TV (my TV is Direct TV however). The speed at this moment is 54.0 Mbps and I pay $57.95 monthly.

I have the first package on here. It suits me for what I need, you can pay a bit more for higher broadband speeds if you need to.

Thanks for the input folks. I have a feeling I am paying more that I should, but let's get more specific.

If you download a 90 minute film-----how long would it take on average?

A standard Hollywood movie that would last for 90 minutes or so, I can download in less than 1 minute. I have no idea of the size.

That sounds every compressed, Lon. Most films I download are pretty close to 700MB. If yours were the same they'd take you 2 minutes each, not 1.

I'd be hard pressed to pick one up in under ten minutes, I'm on the slow Virgin cable option at 20Mbps. They have 50Mbps on offer but I don't ever do anything that would warrant it. They'll put their current 200Mbps trial to production status later this year at which point Wireless routers are going to have to find a new generation to keep up, I've not seen any domestic ones on offer that do more than half of that.

I am not a techie Spot, so I am not really sure how it works. I use a company called Netflix that I can order DVD's on line which will arrive by mail in one day. In addition I can go on line with Netflix and order a movie that I can watch on my computer screen or have directed to my TV. I guess streaming is different than downloading and it's the streaming of these films that takes less than a minute. The movies that are mailed are the more recent films and the ones that can be viewed instantly are over a year old. A pretty good deal for $9.00 month, which allows for one mailed film at a time plus unlimited instant viewing. I love movies.
