9-year-old girl gives birth to a baby boy

Post by Jazzy »

In northeast China last Sunday, a 9-year-old girl gave birth to a healthy 6-pound baby boy. The identity of the father has not yet been released, although the police have reportedly been contacted.

According to news.com.au in Australia, the baby was delivered by cesarean section at a Changchun hospital, and both the mom and newborn are doing well.

The Pregnancy Pact: Talking about teen pregnancy

Sadly, she is not the youngest girl to deliver a baby, according to other published reports. Two girls in Peru, ages 5 and 8, are both on record as giving birth to children of their own. (See a list at Wikipedia of the youngest birth mothers here.)

How young is too young to be a mom? What do you think this newborn's life will be like given this kind of beginning?

China has no rules, so this is nothing new.

just another baby up for illegal adoption here.

some skank places charge $300,000.00.

were used to it, bring em all here, more mouths to feed and our government will pay for it, and it just comes off our tax's.

from a 3 million population to 10 in no time.

sweet.:lips:

Doesn't surprise me a bit. I was talking to a pregnant 12-year-old yesterday. It's pretty "normal" (to use the term very loosely) around here.:-5

The teen pregnancy rate is ridiculous, ( I read somewhere that the teen pregnancy rate in New Mexico is 50% with 50% of those babies being born into extreme poverty!) and honestly, I don't understand it. Birth control is both more widely accepted and more available than when I was young. has society somehow sent the message that this kind of behavior is OK?

How young is too young to be a mom?

IMHO, under 30

What do you think this newborn's life will be like given this kind of beginning?

No telling, but think: At this rate,The mom could be a grandmother while in her twenties.

:wah:

I'll say this, according to our school nurse, having a baby under the age of 16 is very dangerous for both the mother and the child. Apparently, the strain on a young body of not only having to develop itself, but also grow another human being, is profound and leads to all kinds of possible birth defects, genetic problems, developmental and learning disabilities, and even seriously life-endangering problems.:-3

Hi Hoppy,

Can I ask why you're being so negative or are you kidding? I'm not religious but always remember this idiom..."there but for the grace of God... go I"

I think that we're fortunate that we were not born in certain countries that are poverty stricken or prone to internal wars.

These people are not so lucky, but they never asked to be born in a country that was full of strife, hardship, poverty, waring citizens, etc.

Why make these comments?

I'd really like to know.

Good point. I sometimes tell students that are complaining, "Lucky you! You were born into the premiere civilization of the entire planet in all of mankind's history!";)

Jazzy,

In all honesty, this story absolutely sickens me.

I've always taught children who were 12 years old to 14 years old and was always amazed about all the life issues that they were so unaware of but thought that they knew everything.

I'm now teaching 9 year olds, and it's the best experience that I've had. I had one girl in my class who was 7 yrs. old and had her period.....geeze, how does a child deal with that experience?

These poor children who are having babies at this age were raped and the men who raped them should be punished.

Geeze, we're not living in the stone age when 14 years old was natural to give birth.

I'm going to agree with you there, Kathy. A girl that young cannot make rational decisions about sex. Even if the boy is under 18, no one should ever be having sex with a 12 year old.

Is it or is it not true, as things stand now? What comments would you have me make? Should I lie and say it'll have the most wonderful time? Why avoid what is most likely true? I realize how lucky I am to be born in the USA. Had I even been born in GB or France in 1940 I would have been long dead, due to a childhood illness. I wish every child could have the parents and childhood I had. But they don't. So don't pretend hard living conditions don't exist.

Bring some science and biology into it, I highly doubt it. Notice they didn't show the mother. Look at the wiki link, all of the ones I read were off in strange places I never heard of like this one. Some place not easily verifiable. Just like the Enquirer likes it.

I call Bull Pucky on this.

You are a better dective than I. Now that you mentioned it, probably is just gossip rag filler.:)

I'm a percentage!!! yay... okay not cool. New Mexico's problem with the youth is that a lot of kids are having sex and it's cool to have sex these days... cause sex is just so fun apparently... oh and oops so are having kids... There's a lack of morals and higher standards in younger and younger generations... and with movies like Juno it's making it even more cooler and tollerated. i'll just put the blame where it should be... It's all Obama's fault!!!!!

Scrat,

With all the hormones in our foods, kids are developing earlier. I had a 7 year old girl in my class one year and she had her period, plus she was developing sexually in many areas.

Years ago young girls didn't develop until they were 14 yrs. old and now it's 7 yrs. old...soooo sad...

These poor children don't know what hit them:-1

Well, you are not wrong about it being hard to believe.

Children should be children, yes I like that .

Way to much adult content for kids to deal with these days.

It's the in thing to have sex ,I talk to our grandkids about this.

Try to explain that there is plenty of time.

I am old:thinking:that's what happened in the olden days,so they tell me:yh_rotfl

I remember saying the same thing to my parents.
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice.
