Oooh you don't want to be paying good money for none of they, karen lee. We Gardeners prefer to keep a crosscut hand saw in the shed and a few inch and a quarter number 8 screws.

But spot, I think karenlee wanted a round planter!!! Like a beer barrel cut in half - there you are karenlee, all you'l have to do is find a wooden beer barrel and saw it in half, then you'll have two! Or you could neaten one up, varnish it and sell it for a profit - would cover the cost of buying the original beer barrel !

If you google 'wooden barrel planter' you'll be spoiled for choice ! Make sure you have a few drain holes in the bottom of the barrel in case of heavy rain.

Yea. I have a 120 yr old fallen Black Cherry tree (prunus serotina) in my backyard for these kinds of projects. However, for now, I don't have a wood Lathe, or the tools necessary to make large Bowls( which is what i want to do). I'm considering finding a local craftsman who does this sort of thing. Barter.

The wood is just georgeous! and i have almost 100' of mature thick bole.:D

I do have a bowsaw, but my chainsaw is faster at cutting large disks suitable for platters, cutting boards, garden stepping "stones".

The cherry wood sounds ideal, you're fortunate to have some to work with. Getting a local carpenter to work on it would be worthwhile.
