How much bad service do you put up with?

Post by Oscar Namechange »

I ask after listening to the woe's of the way a garage has treated a friend over repairing his car. The garage Is just excuse after excuse with no compensation what-so-ever.

Why did he put up with It?

We all know the British love to complain so why Is his car still not repaired after three weeks when the promise was 3 days?

Not long ago our car was booked In to a well known chain of Garages for 9 am on a job that should have taken an hour.

An hour after dropping It off, Mr O phoned only to be told some Idiot had punched a hole In the Radiator. He explained he needed the car for a dental appointment on the other side of the City at 12 noon. They promised they had sent out for a replacement radiator and It would be ready by then.

He phoned again to be told It still was not ready because they had sent the wrong make of Radiator and told Mr O It would be ready ASAP but they were not sure If they could get the right Radiator for some time. They offered no compensation and were rather Blaise about the whole thing.... Oh Dear...

I phoned them up because Mr O Is far too nice In these Circumstances and began with:

'Right... This Is not a conversation, this Is a Directive.

I am calling a Taxi to take my husband to the Dentist and one to collect him that you are going to pay for. I don't care how you do It but you WILL have the correct Radiator and have It fitted by the time he returns from that dentist. If that Radiator Is not replaced by the time the Taxi returns to your garage from the Dentist, you will hand over a Curtesy Car... AND... I will charge you for every extra hour that you have my car. ...Got It ???

Mr O arrived at the garage In the taxi from the dentist and the Manager came out to greet him profusley apologising. He handed over the £36 for the Taxi Journeys, told him he had gone out especially and got the correct Radiator and fitted It himself. As a back up he had brought a Curtesy car over from another site Just In case of a further problem. They also let him have the replacement of the brake pads for free.

So why has my friends car been languishing In a garage for 3 weeks?

Us women are so much better at demanding :wah:

I related this story to the friend and he said If the car was not ready by Monday as they have now promised... he will let me phone and pretend to be his wife... Can't wait.:wah:

Do it.... I don't take excuses from anyone you say it's going to be ready on a date and time it better be. If not you better start cutting the costs for everyday you keep it. I will also stop by everyday for a detailed inspection of what your doing and why its taking so long with a rental car at the repair shops expense.

Service is service thats what they do if not they better bend over backwards to make it right. ;)

:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl Nice one Mrs 'Don't mess with me' Oscar !

I have memorised this, because I'm sure I shall need a very similar approach at some time in the future, for something if not over the car!

I have memorised this, because I'm sure I shall need a very similar approach at some time in the future, for something if not over the car! In seriousness Gill.. the key Is being assertive and not giving them chance to argue back with you.

Key words such as 'I am' and 'I am entitled to' also 'You will', leave them no-where to go. Such as... 'I KNOW I am entitled to an Immediate full cash refund.

I was In Sainsburys recently and said to the check-out guy... 'Now, ... You ARE going to un-pack the goods you have just packed and re-pack them and this time, you ARE going to pack the eggs on top of the tins Instead of the other way round. IF the eggs are broken, you ARE going to replace them... OR, would you like me to call your Manager'?

I then held up the entire queue while he re-packed and although my eggs were Intact, my bread was squashed so I made him get me a fresh one.
