Owning Rentals for Retirement?

Post by Lon »

New Zealanders do not have much in the way of company pension plans, 401 K Plans, IRA's, Keogh Plans, TSA's, 501 C3 Plans like the USA and their savings rate is not at all high. Therefore many have systematically accumulated rental properties to provide additional income in retirement. Many have told me that in years past they could purchase a property with minimum down and the rental income was sufficient to pay for the property. Many from the UK have come here and purchased properties when the exchange rate was hugely in their favor. All of this would seem to explain why there is so much buying and selling of property going on in a country of this size.

How about where you live. Other than Social Security or your country's retirement scheme, what are your countrymen (women) doing to enhance their retirement?

senior discount coupons!:yh_rotfl

Not many companies here have their own pension plan Lon, this is why I had told you previously, not all seniors have it rich.;)

Some could not afford college.

Some could not afford to invest in retirement savings plans when wages were and still are so small.

Alot of seniors end up losing their homes as they can no longer pay utilities, property tax's and more and end up in senior apartment buildings with slum landlords.

We have social security at the age of 65 which is around $600 per month, not much to live on, is it?
