I was nearly hysterical because some jerk put on a video of US soldiers but put "And the band played waltzing matilda" to the video clip omitting (two verses) references to ANZACS and Gallipoli.....I went back to make a comment and it disappeared. I'm truly hoping that it was removed ......never seen a video get so much of a hated responce.

Here's Eric Bogle singing the original John Williamson song

"And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda"

(Not the same song as "Waltzing Matilda", Saint)

YouTube - Eric Bogle - The Band Played Waltzing Matilda

My grandfather enlisted at 14, falsifying his age - he was an Anzac who did come back. I proudly keep his medals.

Eric bogle write this one in the 1970's, It's the kind of song that couldn't have been written in the immediate aftermath.

YouTube - Eric Bogle - No Man's Land ( Green Fields of France )

It's another one that gets hijacked. If it makes people think perhaps it's not a bad thing.

Well that's two songs that are fit for my great grandfather. Lovely lovely song GMC.

Most ANZACS of Gallipoli were in the same boat as my great grandfather, if they left Gallipoli alive they were sent immediately to the western front. (My GGG died at the age of 55 from complications of mustard gas poisoning on the western front (he got out of Gallipoli physically unscathed and got gassed in France)

My beef though on that other song "The band played Waltzing Maltilda"

Yes, The video and (version of the) song is an insult to the memory of ANZAC soldiers. It would be like taking that song you've put up and putting it to the Iraq war . Wouldn't make any sense at all.

sorry guys if you have me wrong here ...i didn't mean to start a war. the rats of tobruk I've seen them march ..I know some of them ( by default) It was just that I couldn't find (after youtube rendered it's new crap) the foresaid mentioned post ...

oh never mind ..i just finished an assignment that is thirty percent of my grade and I'm geting pissed now. hehoe the merry doe....oh my god !!! I havent heard that since I was a kid.

oH my god I have so much **** on my plate presently ...it's beginning to show dammit ...my apologies.

ahhh I don't want to clean out the Brits who were at Gallipoli there were Canadians as well. poor barstards (the british empire and what not )

anyway I gave this american military soldier what for and others did as well and he removed the video .

I have no problem what so ever in a person using song as a representation of grief ...but some songs you don't borrow and change and some songs you simply shouldn't use ....to any extent. I don't even like modern day soldiers of our own using that song.

anyway I've had my rant ...and i will admit it's at the end of the day and after 13 hours of an assignment and six beers...sorry guys you are my pub. but hhheeee hoe i'm done ....

thnaks for the links guys.

pretty good song eh? Now understand it, you can't if you're not here .So therefore you don't really know it. I know a beautiful American Indian song ..but I don't understand it the way they would. but i know it ...makes no difference.

Can I ask why links to two very good film and newsreel websites, are considered "Bull crap"?
