U.N. health agency: Volcano ash is a health risk
GENEVA – Europeans should try to stay indoors if ash from Iceland's volcano starts settling, the World Health Organization warned Friday as small amounts of ash fell in Iceland, Scotland and Norway.

Is this guy Ken Donaldson for real? "Oh, go ahead and breath it all in guys, it's not going to hurt you much at all." Basicly that's what he's saying. I mean give me a break.
Are we going to have another 9-11 case on a massive scale? Where people start developing lung problems because the government isn't willing to tell them about the real dangers of inhaling ash and soot? I just hope the people are smarter in this case and they learn the valuable lessons from the past.
I love the part about "only people close to the volcano have developed lung problems." Hmmm......so they admit it causes lung problems....but they stop at saying it only does so for people who live close to the volcano.

Hey TB, it is not the first volcano to explode. In fact Iceland is regularly hit with earthquakes and volcanoes. It sits on the boarder of 3 tectonic plates, Europe, N America and Arctic.
The attached is a video of the massive volcanic eruption back in 1973, now that is what I call ash settling.
Yet Iceland lives on.

Now you have them not telling us the truth about the risk presumably in the hope we all die quietly.

Show me one post, anywhere on this board where I have made the statement that the ENTIRE World is coming to an end.
Sure, you'll find me make statements like "civilization is coming to an end", the "end" times are upon us, the "world as we know it is coming to an end", but nowhere did I ever say the entire World is coming to an end. That's something out of fiction novels at the moment, because nothing in our present time threatens the entire World as a whole, but rather what's coming is going to affect massive amounts of lifeforms on our planet's surface. That's on the surface. So you, me, and everyone else, rich or poor, sure, we could be looking at our death. That is a possibility. And one that we should all recognize. But the World itself (the planet itself) is in no grave danger at all.

OK then split semantic hairs of you want. You didn't claim then world is coming to an end just the one we know. Gaia will out. That should **** off jehovah, mind you he seems permanently annoyed.

U.N. health agency: Volcano ash is a health risk
With the sky blackened out and the wind driving a fine, sticky dust, dairy farmer Berglind Hilmarsdottir teamed up with neighbors to round her animals and get them to shelter. The ash is toxic — the fluoride causes long-term bone damage that makes teeth fall out and bones break.

That more intense eruption on Saturday, must have caused that awful burn type smell that I experienced on Saturday evening outside my house. It was acrid and hit my lungs, needless to say I didn't stay out in it any longer than I needed to !
Today, at the moment, the air seems clear and free from that pungent smell. I am off to try to get some masks - my hubby is asthmatic, and we have to excercise our dog each day. I think we will stick to walking in the woods for the foreseable future.
It is rather worrying though.

Most people are bright enough to work out it's potentially dangerous they're also bright enough to realise getting hysterical is a useless safety mechanism.

Recognizing danger on the other hand is a very useful safety mechanism.

So it is, getting hysterical, however, is not.
