Apparently it's bigger neighbour, hekla, is due to erupt as well and they have a history of erupting in tandem. The effects are likely to be greater than those we have seen. The icelanders have been warning about it apparently and not being taken seriously.

Thank you gmc, that is fascinating! One could watch that first webcam for ages, what a good idea to install webcams there - could give good warning of increased activity of the volcano!

Try just searching for webcams on iceland. That's how I found that link.
