Tires...ya gotta have em

Post by Nomad »

The dreaded tire shopping experience has reared its ugly head. My front end alignment appears to be just fine. The tire guys always want to terrorize you with extra purchases. Is an alignment necessary when purchasing new tires?

Help..anyone?

If your old tires wore properly and the car drives fine I say no.

If your tyres have worn evenly then probably not. if worn unevenly then yes you do. If you've smacked in to a pavement then possibly as well. I assume they balance the wheel as a matter of course. I live in an area with so many roundabouts the nearside tyres always wear unevenly along the outside tread, bloody nuisance so it is.

Good advice above. If you didn't have an alignment issue before, you should be good to go.

Well, it never hurts to have it checked when you are buying tires, just to be sure, but as others said, unless your tires are wearing in an odd fashion, or your steering feels out of whack, you should be fine.

Stay away from Goodyear and Firestone shops. they seem to have a questionable ethics as corporate strategy.

Go to WalMart for tires, as that is about all they do, sell and mount tires. The only thing they might try to sell you is an oil change.

I got a great deal on tires at America's Tire last year. Their price beat everyone else's. My daughter had a bad experience a couple of months ago with Goodyear. Either they didn't inflate a tire enough or mounted it wrong because it burst while she was driving, luckily in the very early morning with little traffic, so she skidded out and ran up an embankment. She has an insurance claim in now.

Help..anyone?If money is an issue, have them do the right side now and the left after you pay this off.
I expressly forbid the use of any of my posts anywhere outside of FG (with the exception of the incredibly witty 'get a room already' )posted recently.

Folks who'd like to copy my intellectual work should expect to pay me for it.:-6

If an allignment has not been done for quite some time, since getting new tires, at least a "4 wheel" allignment check should be done. See link below & you decide!

People often worry about if their car will start or not, they seldom worry about if their car will stop or not.

Take care of your breaks and take care of your tiers, together they can stop you when you really need to stop in a hurry.
