Wife and I will be in Lisbon on April 11th and will take a train from there to the Algarve area to visit friends. We will leave Lisbon on the 17th after boarding the "Windsurf", sailing to Barcelona and then on to Livorna, Italy via Tangier, Malaga, Almeria, Cartagena, Ibiza, Barcelona, Palma De Mallorca, St. Tropez, Monte Carlo, Porto Fino, and then home from Rome.
This will be my first visit to Lisbon and would welcome any suggestions on MUST DO, SEE, OR EAT things in Lisbon.

Indelibly written on the minds of all Europeans is the date Lisbon 1755, when the entire city was destroyed by an earthquake. That single event caused the Enlightenment, the Death of God Movement and the Peninsular War. There's bound to be a museum to it somewhere.
Speaking of the Peninsular War I seem to recall that hundreds of people drowned when a bridge collapsed during the evacuation, maybe there's a museum to that as well.
There's lots of famous battlefields I'd quite like to visit if I ever get to Portugal. I'd avoid Lisbon though, earthquakes aren't like lightning strikes, they tend to congregate in the same place. Good luck with that.

When flower power came along I stood for Human Rights, marched around for peace and freedom, had some nooky every night - we took it serious.

You must drink some Vinho Verde, visit the castle, the monastary. Do not by small bars of chocolate from men on the street unless you really want hash. If you have the time, take a short 30 minute train ride to Sintra for the day. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been. There is a small town with great restaurants in Sintra, but the real draw is that the mountains are covered in a botanical park with several breathtaking palaces and castles from different time periods. If you hike through the park around dusk, you will feel like you in a magic fairy tale land. It is so beautiful, and I bet in April all of the flowering trees will be blooming! Don't miss it!

The remainder of the itinerary is breathtaking too. Take a camera. I was in Barcelona a couple of years ago, the Picasso museum and Gaudi's Park Guell are unmissable and somewhere there's a multi-layered walk-through part of the Roman city with glass floors which is essential.
